i have 8-9 archive disks i would like to hang onto long term. alas but i have a spindle made for 25, just slightly too big to fit in my briefcase. had i bought a 10-pack or a 15-pack in the first place, i'd be sitting pretty, but now that i've thrown out 16-17 blanks, i wnat a thinner pack!

if i saw the spindle down, there's no way the cover will fit. so basically i'm looking around for some naturally occuring "box" i can load them into instead.

i have looked at everything from paper clips to soap to pancake mix to the box a smoke alarm came in. nothing quite right.

best fit so far is tupperware made for a lone sandwich. but it's so $$$$, i might as well just go and buy a fresh pack of 10 disks.

any other obvious/household box i'm overlooking? or other jury-rig?

the alternative is carrying the disks around loose or on a string...or splitting them up among 3-4 cardboard "sleeves". neither of which appeals to me. or leaving them on the half-empty spindle but well outside the briefcase...in which case i will LOSE them...for certain.... :(

Look at cd holders for the visor of your car. Find one that will fit into your briefcase.

10.88 is 3 bucks MORE than the 10-pack of blank disks!

that's why i was originally saying "jury-rig" or "(common) household box". my BACKUP plan is to blow the 8 bucks, buy a 10-pack with its nice, slender, spindle, then PITCH all the unneeded DISKS. i was hoping to AVOID that.

besides which, that "24 disk capacity" container is no thinner than my "25 disk" spindle! the whole point was to shoot for something around 10 or 15 disks. no more than 3/4 INCH.

An empty Stouffers entree (12 oz. Macaroni and Cheese) box should hold about 10 CD/DVD's with sleeves and you get to feed yourself too. Just make a new label for it and you're set to go.

if it holds them "with sleeves", i suspect it's too thick. i'd need something that held about 2-3 disks with sleeves...or 10-15 without.

now you've got me thinking; is there any sort of "3-pack" of CDs in the junk bin at some video store. like "rambo 1-2-3" all together in a master box.

come to think of it, i think i had "Police Compleat" or "Best of Bowie" in just such a box at one point. 2 CDs, with sleeves, surrounded by a master sleeve.

    dang. wish i hadn't pitched.

@cabbinc: yeah, i may have to resort to homemade. not of hello kitty, but in general.

A Stouffers entree box will hold about 10 CD/DVD's with paper sleeves. Notice the word "paper".

oh, i'm sorry. i was thinking jewel cases (and carried that use through to my own post).

i'll have a look. i know a kraft mac & cheese box was about the right thickness (but fell short of the "square" needs for the disks to fit, diameter-wise).

i did find one box absolutely PERFECT size-wise. very very thin (1/2 inch?) and perfectly (4 inch?) square. i couldn't ask for more...except that it smells like ANT TRAPS!!

not rly sure i want that in my BRIEFCASE..... :(

If I remember correctly, a CD/DVD is app. 4.75 inches in diameter.

ok, then it was a 5" square.

about the only square box in my entire HOUSE, i find. not to mention nice and THIN.

anyone here have experience turning in work which reeks of rat poison? is that generally frowned upon?

    :-D

IDK, do you think it's worth more than a $10 carrying case if it is frowned upon?
