Been a PC owner for about 2 months now and since getting broardband my CPU usage has gone through the roof. On averege 35-40 running processes over 4,000k and CPU usage is now always above 90%. I've been told I may have 'phantom' running processes that need to be shut down. I'm not confident or knologable enough to fix the problem. Can anybody help or shed some light on this situation. Cheers, Noob PC Owner.

To me it looks like your machine is bogged down with spyware and probably viruses too.

My first suggestion would be to download the following:
    Adaware - Spyware removal program
SpyBot - Another spyware removal program
Spyware Blaster - Prevents spyware being loaded to start with.

Update all of these and run thier scan or apply them (in the case of SpywareBlaster).

Next, I suggest getting a decent AV program if you don't have one already. A good one I'd recomend is avast! Home Edition

You may want to run the avast! Virus Scanner tool first and see if it brings anything up.

After installing any of those programs, I'd also suggest running Microsoft RegClean, and maybe RegCleaner, and in that select tools -> clean registry -> do them all.

If you're still having problems after that, we can get you to do a Hijackthis scan and post a log file, and we can help you identify and remove specific problems.

Actually yes, DUH i left a whole section out there...

go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ and download all CRITICAL updates.

go to Start->control panel->network connections->right click on your internet connection
properties, advanced, protect my network connection (check that box)

You now have the firewall enabled, so you shouldnt get re-infected by sasser, blaster etc.

    And Welcome! :D
