100% Cpu

friends havin a problem with his cpu usage and i believe its a virus but neither of us know how to fix this

1.5ghz cpu 512mb ram 37.6 gb harddrive...here is a screen shot of the problem

wuauclt.exe .....Windows Update AutoUpdate Client. Background process which checks with Microsoft website for updates to the operating system. Shows up on the Task Manager's processes list when it is waiting for a response, e.g. to confirm permission to download an update.

The wuauclt.exe file is located in the folder C:\Windows\System32. If located anywhere else then wuauclt.exe is most likely a virus, spyware, trojan or worm! Check this with Security Task Manager.

If unsure, follow the instructions for posting in the Malware Forum and let the experts have a look at your logs!

First, uninstall ALL Norton software. You can download the Norton Removal Tool from here: http://www.majorgeeks.com/Norton_Removal_Tool_SymNRT_d4749.html
Reboot the PC and see how it runs, then visit the malware removal forum and read the stickies....

Does it work ok in safe mode? If so, it's not the MS services which are causing the problem, but a 3rd party service.
