Not quite sure what i need to do to get my 100 gig HD to see all 100 gig. I have a Gateway Pentium 4, 2 ghz with Windows XP Pro. The HD is a western digital and I've tried everything from utility disks to software trying to repair this drive. Does anyone have any kind of feedback for me or should i just use it for a paper weight. Thanks.

To start off, what model of drive, and have you physically changed any jumpers on it? Only way to go from 100gb to 38gb is either change the jumpers for LBA, or change the partitioning scheme. Or lord forbid, load the incorrect bios.

If you have a Knoppix LiveCD, you can look at the Partition with QTParted.

Its a Western Digital WD1000, 100 GB. The jumpers have always been on cable select just like the other jumpers on the HD's that are in my computer. I never really could do anything with the partition cause it only showed the 1 with 38 GB and i never loaded the incorrect bios. I'll look for the Knoppix LiveCD and see what i can do. Thanks.

Change the jumpers to Master. And what model is the Gateway?

    Found this http://wdc.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/wdc.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=935&p_created=1049499537&p_sid=58JH*s-h&p_lva=&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPSZwX3NvcnRfYnk9JnBfZ3JpZHNvcnQ9JnBfcm93X2NudD04MTgmcF9wcm9kcz0mcF9jYXRzPSZwX3B2PSZwX2N2PSZwX3BhZ2U9MQ**&p_li=&p_topview=1

Most likely your Bios needs a kick. Take out the Cmos Battery to clear it, then put it back in and power up and go into the Bios to see if it is automatically detected. How long have you had this drive?

Most mobo's are set with a jumper that tells the bios that its at most a 38gb drive ....you should have a setup disc that came with the drive to format and PARTITION that drive into 3 drives so that you have the full capacity of that drive.

I used Western Digitals Dos Version of Data Lifeguard V11.0 and was able to fix the drive. Thanks for everyones help.

That is not what the OP wanted to do Tim. Most likely the Partition table scheme got hosed on this drive.

How old is this drive? Start backing up the important data, due to it could happen again possibly.
