the sound is integrated into the mobo, but yes you are missing an operating system. and for games, i would recommend some version of windows.

    Hi

Nice parts for new build, what 3d modeling app are you using, 3dmax, maya etc?

With 4GB ram, I would be going for a 64bit OS to use all your ram, and then making sure your 3d modeling apps are 64bit compatible, the major ones are.

I would also be tempted to get a Western Digital Raptor HDD for the main drive and use the 500GB as data storage, backup etc

also 500W is low these days for maybe a larger PSU that will allow any furure upgrades you have, the PSU is a crucial part these days as hardaware especially GFX cards eat power.

Your missing a CD Drive there buddy. Unless you dont plan on using one but, most people need them. Heres a pretty decent DVD burner unless you want to go blu-ray but, that will cost you. http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827118032 the only thing with this one is you will have to order a sata cable separate because oem usually just comes with the part itself unless you go retail. sata cables are pretty cheap about $5 you may need one for your hard drive too as I've experience in past orders from new egg that not all hard drives come with sata cables. other than that you should be good just decide on a OS. Win7 comes out in oct.

thats the os to go with i would suggest if you dont want to wait until oct when 7 comes out. this one has the upgrade coupon for 7 as well. http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116678CVF

here is a cd/dvd drive as mentioned in an earlier post in case you don't have one to poach off an older computer

the raptor suggestion was a good one. i have bought 3 raptors off ebay and no failures yet
found this one that might be a good fit for budget and space. use this for os stuff and another drive for storage

    good luck
