Ok So, I got this little problem. I know how to block sites using my host file, but is there anyway that I can make a page that it goes to instead of the Failed to Connect default page... I want users on my computer to know when they went to a site that me and my computer does not approve of.

    Any help would be appreciated.

You should look into OpenDNS. A much better solution for Content Filtering.

You cannot do it using the windows hosts files all you can do is redirect it to your localhost in which you get the error described above.

If your local computer is hosting web services and listening on port 80, would probably be possible to host your own page based on the loopback address. A web search may give you some options on a free web hosting service to play with, but I certainly wouldn't do it if your computer is directly internet facing. Consider carefully what vulnerabilities you may be opening your computer up to by doing something like hosting web services off of it. Since this isn't something I've played with, I apologize if this reply isn't particularly helpful. You may also be able to host a page off of another computer on your local network and just redirect the hosts file entry to that IP instead of the loopback address.
