HELP-pc keeps freezin up .It started with a trogen+then got worse after i got a mate to "help".I can not get into norton or e-mail etc.I ran PC Tools Registry Mechanic which told me iv got 1521 registry errors,150 C:shorcut errors which it will happily fix after purchase.Main question is am i likely to find any freeware that will do the same job? I have looked but the free ones dont find as many errors and im still left with the faults. Many thanks for any advice

Matey, you may try AVG Antivirus Free Edition and Ad Aware Standard.. Don't go for the reg fix thing first (you can try it if nothing else works).. try to remove the trojan with AVG.

Both of these software are free to use.

Thankyou Yukon98,Just Playin and Troy for the tips/links.
Story so far-TROGAN-options to delete, continue or quarantine-all no response
reset and freeze-up several times then Norton freezes and stops the pc while doing its scan. Next day my mate said my c drive was full and moved program files to d then deleted program files off c. (hes not touching my pc again!)I think this has left me with missing path files/registry errors,no e-mail/norton/winzip/java.
Adware found and fixed 200 faults,Tweek found 18 which are not safe to remove,Regseek seems to exclude four registry keys from scan and clearly warns of potential damage if deleting which has scared me off messin with it. AVG needs me to access e-mail to use it so no-go on that one and RegMechanic which now has 1700 errors are only contactable by e-mail and i have a feeling they need to send registration key by e-mail though im not sure.Being new to all this am i likely to be able to correct the e-mail and norton paths myself or is it too involved? Thanks for any help

sounds to me like your mate moving your files to D: and then cleaning your registry has removed entries that are required for the programs to run. If you reinstall the applications and choose D as the destination (so you can free up space on C) and point it to the location that your mate moved it to then new entries should be created and you should have your applications back.

I don't recommend AVG as a virus scanner. Although it is good in scanning/detection.. it isn't the best cleaner. I've found AVAST home edtion to be a better all-around AV , though the interface needs some work.

Thanks Kodo- right click and properties on norton desktop icon tells me the shortcut goes to D but the general path is to C. Problem is i dont have disc coz its updated from NIS 2003(2nd user pc) so re-install mite be difficult,i will check out norton site to see if they can help-As for the e-mail it comes with the wireless broadband so i mite brave that one coz i have the disc.I hope it re-installs ok coz the only thing working is the net!

the other option is to clean up your C drive a bit and put BACK the programs that you need to C: .. change your Vitural Memory to use D.. that should help too. Further installs should use D.
