For some time now i have been looking to buy one 17" LCD monitor. Until now i was sure that the best choice for me would be Samsung Syncmaster 173P+, but now i am not so sure because in my search on the internet for tests with this monitor i've encountered some different opinions, some pro and some... not so pro.. and i don't know what to do, to buy it or not  . I would like to know if this monitor really has 8ms response time G2G (and what really represents this grey to grey ? ) and if the contrast is really 1000:1 ..

If you know any webpage where i can find some proffesional testing done with this monitor, i would be highly interested. I am also open minded for other monitors in the same class with this one (i want it to be 17", double input: DVI & D-SUB, for gaming, movies and graphics; and at the aprox same price). I am waiting for suggestions.

Please excuse my poor english :)

I just got 19" few weeks ago, Samsung Syncmaster 930b is 1/2 of my Dual setup, the other 1/2 is my Trinitron 21" CRT, I love it.

    Here's some rewiews on 17"
PC World top ten 17" :

Here's one from Extreme Overclockers on the one your considering:

They had also reviewed 173T & the 172X can link here down the page a bit:

I just bought the FujiPlus 19" for $250 after the mail-in rebate. Got it last week. I freakin' love it. I can actually run two programs next to each other without it looking strange, and CS:S is freaking nice with a big monitor. It has a 12ms response time and DVI input... They also make a 17" version on Newegg.

Check it out. I was a little worried about the brand, but I got no dead pixels and I'm so glad I got a 19" for cheaper than most peoples' 17" LCDs.

    Good Point.
I didnt see the date, but the point was the model, As I stated in my post seems there are couple 173 models.
If you read my post you'll see, I did provide a current rewiew for the "173P plus"

Another thing, have you noticed that TheMavrick Original post refer's to Contrast ratio of 1000:1, where as the 173P+ link I provided states that it is 1500:1
    Samsungs web too:
    http://www.samsung.com/au/products/monitors/tft/173p_plus.asp
So I wounder which model he's refering too, It doesnt matter to me I'm just trying to help. (The 173P Plus, sounds like a great 17" LCD)

    Thanks!

I don't know if you noticed that small sign after the173P in my original post. It's a + (plus) ;) so i am refering to the Plus model. The other model is one year old. It was 25ms & 700:1.

The plus model (as i saw now on Samsung's website) it really has 1500:1 contrast ratio. In my original post i said it has 1000:1 because in the shop that i saw the monitor that was mentioned in the specs. If it has 1500:1 it's even better, i really don't mind :)

Also, on Samsung's website i saw that the response time is 8ms (G2G) and 25ms (rise-and-fall time). As i stated in the original post i need a good 17" monitor for graphics, and also for my free time (games & movies). How does rise-and-fall time of 25 ms will influence my fun part, the games and the movies?

I want to thank all of you helping me with this problem :)
