17" monitor LCD help

I just bought a new flat monitor, adjusted the resolution to 1024 as instructed, and now the words not only in hotmail but other sites (this one too) are too small to read! How to I fix this? going into appearances didn't help ...changing the resolution also shrank the task bar icons...any help greatly appreciated thanks Orion
also tried changing the size of the print in hotmail from the drop down screen under view, but no luck...

 

What is the setting under View --> Text Size?

Is it just Internet pages you are having trouble with, or text in Windows itself?

Did this problem occur when you installed the new monitor, and if so, did you install any software?

 

the setting is at "largest"
it is mostly windows text, but some sites
and this occured when I changed the resolution from 800 x 600 to the recommended higher setting 1024
