Hi, got this friend his os is windows ME
He has just installed avg 6.0
he ran the program and it found 19 virus's
most are located in c:\restore\temp 16 in total
the file names are
A0089891.cpy
A0089915.cpy
A0089951.cpy
A0089966.cpy
A0144097.cpy
and so on. all ending in cpy
The other locations are
c:windows\nem213.dll
c:windows\system\prelaod.oxc
c:windows\temp\dload.exe
how would be the best way to clean these files

You need to disable system restore. Reboot, run your virusscan and clean the infected files. After cleaning. Re-enable system restore and reboot. Check again to make sure they are gone.

To get rid of ME CPY files do it the old fashioned way, use your startup disk and start your computer in DOS then route to the C:\_RESTORE\TEMP DIRECTORY

At the directory type the following

DEL C:\_RESTORE\TEMP\*.*

YOU WILL THEN BE ASKED IF YOU WANT TO DELETE ALL OF THE FILES IN THIS DIRECTORY Y/N Click on Y and dos will remove the offending files.

The _Restore\temp directory does not show in windows explorer unless you ask for it
