2 HD's....

Ive got a WD Caviar 21600 HD and its 1624.6 MB... Ive got Win XP Pro currently installed on it and was thinking about using it as my boot drive and using my 40gb maxtor hdrive for storage... I was wondering if 1.6 gigs is enough for things that get installed to the C: drive from other programs.....

 

Not if you're running XP. Personally, I'd have to say run in terror from the WD drive, and just shove everything onto the Maxtor.

 

Lol i figured someone would say that... Oh well i guess ill just settle for that 10gb HD as my boot drive (if i can find it)

 

That'll be good. If you game at all, I'd just put them on the 40GB. Even if it's for storage 10 probably won't be enough.

 

well all i use my C drive for (boot) is just for Windows and thats it... Everything else i install on my D drive(storage and games). Ive got 9GB on C drive right now

At the moment i only have 1 drive 40GB.... But i know where my extra 10gb is so that should help spacewise.

 

Alright i just installed win xp pro on my 10gb HD (im using it right now). Should i delete the C: partition on my 40gb harddrive (c:= boot) and then extend the D: partition to fill the rest of the drive space? AND THEN how should i connect the 2 HDs? should i use the one ide cable to connect both hds and use another IDE cable plugged into another slot connecting my CD and DVD drives? Oh yea, Does it matter which IDE cable i use for my CD and DVD drives?

 

grr... missed the edit time again Anyway, i figured this one out on my own... Although I think my 10gb HD might be a little old.... Its a Quantum Fireball Plus 3.5 Series... Pulled it out of an Apple G4 Sawtooth... Apple G4's logic board and cpu are both gone.... burned out... Not sure if HD is at 100% health but its running as boot for now...

 

If it's just the windows boot, then you're golden.
