I just had a few questions I wanted to ask in regards to Outlook Express. First, I notice that when I am closing out of express lately a message comes up that says "To free up diskspace, outlook express can compact messages." I do not want to lose any of my messages in many of the various folders that I have in outlook express, as I have many that are saved and are important, but I always so no to the option and it comes up every time I close out now. I tried going into tools, options, maintenace and choosing to clean up now and then choosing to compact but it only helps for a day or two, then the message comes back every time I log out. How can I stop this from happening. I thought I have plenty of memory and diskspace to use in outlook express, so why does this happen. Also, I wanted to know if anyone could help me with another outlook express issue. I am trying to sync my cell phone with outlook express but it seems I am only able to do it with the standard outlook program that comes with microsoft office. Does anyone know if this is the case or what I need to do for this also. Thanks.

Nothing to worry about here, really... trust me on this one! ;)

Compacting your files in OE is actually very easy and necessary in order to "maintain the stability" of all of your previously saved files - not to just to "save space" which is incidentally a bonus. Additionally, this compacting of folders and folders in OE is actually a very normal and routine process and it is essential (at least IMO) for preserving your files and keeping them in good and stable working order.

Messages in Outlook Express are compacted in order to speed up the work of that this program does as well as to decrease the space which Outlook Express files take up on the hard disk. It is also important to note that the "more compact" your files are the less probable it is that they will be damaged in case of any failure. Compacting your files in OE is actually very easy and necessary it maintain the stability of your saved files.

A few ‘safety’ tips to follow though on during the ‘compacting’ process:
In my view, it is best not to use your computer at all until the compacting process is complete, which can take anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes. This is the safest way to do this. Don’t interrupt the process once it has begun. DO NOT use the Task Manager to kill the msimn.exe process, or put your computer on Standby, or turn off the power, or use a memory-intensive program while compaction is occurring. Any of those can potentially cause destruction of your files and the loss of your messages.

As for your other question; lots of people use the programs called SnapSync II and DataPilot both of which are software that claim the ability to synchronize with with Outlook, Outlook Express (and a few other PIMS) on your PC and cost around 30-35 bucks. However I've never actually used either of these so I cannot vouch for their proficiency.

    Good Luck!
