ye hi, I got a Abit PC, uhm, 2004 made, cant really get anymore details other then the Mobo is IS7-E2G
2 days ago i got it,hooked it up, and it ran fine. Last night, when i shut it down via holding the power on button, i went 2 bed. then woke up. only to notice that when i turn it on, the screen powers on but doesnt display, so tried re attaching the wires, checking for bent pins (none) and tried on different monitors, and nothing has helpd, i cant see anything on the screen its just black. with an orange light.
i opend up the PC and took out the video card, placed it back in after giving it a blow and still nothing, i even tried putting in my other 5200 vid card and nothing. and now my old vid card wont display my old PC, like its been stuffed up too, i anti staticd myself and stuff but nothing working. what could be the problems? ive cleard the CMOS and still nothing!
    can anyone help??? thanks!!:)

Sounds to me like the motherboard got fried and took the video card with it. When you tried the 2nd video card, it got fried by the motherboard too. On the other hand, the power supply may be the root of all this... shutting down using the power button is really not recommended except in situations when there is no other choice, like when the PC has locked up completely. Other than that, A L W A Y S use the Start > Shut Down buttons in Windows. So.... I would first test that power supply before you start burning up hardware left and right. Check out my links below for some 'how-to-test-your-power-supply guides. If the power supply passes, then I'd have to say that the motherboard has failed. Give the motherboard a close inspection and look for blown/popped capacitors....

Normal healthy capacitors look like this:

    Leaking/popped capacitors look like this:

    http://tbn2.google.com/images?q=tbn:Y5WuxQTQI_nreM:http://www.op911.net/photos/story/capacitor.jpg http://tbn3.google.com/images?q=tbn:n6qnVlzrMn1XaM:http://i.ehow.com/images/GlobalPhoto/Articles/2162895/BadCapacitor01-main_Full.jpg

Sometimes bad capacitors won't actually have the crud leaking out the top as in the pics above, but if the top of the capacitor is not PERFECTLY flat, then it is failing. Even a very, very slight 'popped' top is bad news.

Let us know how it goes!

Uhhhh... you're on line now, right? If you read the info in those links, you'll see that you don't need the screen. You'll only need a multimeter (aka a voltmeter). Radio Shack has 'em for about $20, and Harbor Freight (if you have one locally) has 'em on sale most of the time for only $2.99!!!!

    Well, good luck!

Chances are, the motherboard is already dead :( But you really shouldn't replace it until you know for sure if the power supply is OK. It would be a shame to pop a new motherboard in there only to have it fried by the power supply.....

Let us know how things go....
