2-step Verification

Interesting. I didn't think it would affect anyone but new registrations.

It's legit and we turned it on because we are being targeted majorly by some porn spammers (which you may have seen before we get them deleted) and are hoping that keeps the bots from being able to log in and post.

I'll probably disable it on Tuesday after the holiday weekend. If they get through even with it, I'll disable it today.

For now, you will be sent an email with a code. You can check the 'good for 30 days' or whatever it says and you should be good to go.

Both David and I were busy for a while deleting their posts and accounts...then I think TimW got in on the action as well.

I thought I could set it up so that only new users got the 2 step thing, but it obviously didn't work like that.

 

Yep...most are bots and are not real people.

I believe we have found a solution that should alleviate the issue that will hopefully not create too much bother for the legitimate registrations. I'm not sure what happened to make us a target. It came on quickly and aggressively, though.

 

Thanks folks for all your reports and the two step is a pain but I use it and did create a guide HERE a while back to using it to protect your account. We will take quick easy steps to protect the forum in the short term then look at better longer steps that do not hamper your experience (sound like a commercial) of the forum. Laura really jumped on this quickly as they were coming in me and TimW then noticed the same and managed to get rid of it as quick as coming in, but its not easy always to be in the admin panel deleting accounts and posts while new ones coming in, which is were all you great members come in in reporting which really helps.
