Is it possible to put in two video cards and have them display the same desktop on two monitors? I know you can do this on a Mac. But is it possible on a PC?

Yep, provided the graphics card drivers support it :)

Ahhh Ok. I was just wondering if I could slap an old generico PCI card in my computer and have it display a mirror of my desktop on another monitor. I thought it might work. Seems simple enough.

I know just about every nvidia card supports dual monitors.

I would buy an nvidia card that supports dual monitors. then you don't need to take up a PCI slot.

I actually do have an nVidia card in the machine. But it only has one output. It supports dual monitors but not as a mirror. I thought maybe there might be some third party tweak out there that might do the trick.

I have the set-up you are describing, and I've yet to figure out how to mirror the desktop through both cards. I can do it only if I use the VGA and S-Video outputs on my AGP card. If your card has only one output, it doesn't support dual monitors. Windows XP does support multiple monitors, though I have no idea if there is a way to mirror the desktop on both monitors through it. I have a GeForce FX5200 and a GeForce2 MX 400 PCI card.

Download the latest nvidia forceware drivers. They have a dual monitor setup wizard that should help you do exactly that!

I have them already, the problem is that XP doesn't handle monitor mirroring. Nvidia's drivers don't mirror through 2 separate cards. I can mirror through the 5200 if I use the VGA and S-video outputs, but I can't do it running the 5200 and the MX400 card. It's not a big deal for me as I use a plasma TV as a 2nd monitor just to watch DVDs and TV shows from my TV card I've stored on my HD.
