Here's What You Need to Use Windows XP Professional
    • PC with 300 megahertz or higher processor clock speed recommended; 233 MHz minimum required (single or dual processor system);* Intel Pentium/Celeron family, or AMD K6/Athlon/Duron family, or compatible processor recommended

    • 128 megabytes (MB) of RAM or higher recommended (64 MB minimum supported; may limit performance and some features)

    • 1.5 gigabytes (GB) of available hard disk space*

    • Super VGA (800 x 600) or higher-resolution video adapter and monitor

    • CD-ROM or DVD drive

    • Keyboard and Microsoft Mouse or compatible pointing device

Here's What You Need to Use Windows 2000 Professional
    Minimum Requirements
    Computer/Processor 133 MHz or higher Pentium-compatible CPU.
Memory At least 64 megabytes (MB) of RAM; more memory generally improves responsiveness.
Hard Disk 2 GB with 650 MB free space.
CPU Support Windows 2000 Professional supports single and dual CPU systems.
    Drive CD-ROM or DVD drive.
Display VGA or higher resolution monitor.
    Keyboard Required.

i know the sys req.s but i wanted to know from other people and their experience if say Photoshop 7 or CS would run better on one or the other with that much RAM, how about Audition 1.5? What would be a lot worse on 2000? on XP?

    Misunderstood what you meant.

2000 is less resource intensive. I would run that on a system with those specs. However, the other applications are resource intensive, so you are still going to experience some serious lag time.

    Identical.

Windows XP (32 bit) IS Windows 2000 w/ a few more features, eye candy and a slighly upgraded kernel.

Windows XP (64 bit) is based off of Windows 2003, but for games, performs identical to XP 32 bit.

I've installed, deployed and used systems with both 2000 and XP on them. They are not identical. Otherwise the system requirements would be the same.

Nobody said they were identical LOL.

    They perform identical.

Unless you don't take the time to turn off the eye candy you don't want in XP.

By the way, the system requirements are not the same.

    Ugh...

Well, you can tweak Windows XP to work like 2k in resource useage, etc..

Of course, its gonna look like 2k, as well.
