24,000 updates?

When I turned on my laptop today, on start-up it displayed a message saying 'installing update 1 of 24,714 updates'. It then spent a few minutes installing these then, after I logged on, a few more minutes configuring them. After that it worked perfectly. This is not my main computer so it only gets used once or twice each week but I can't believe that even Microsoft would find that many mistakes in a week. Is it possible for a PC to forget or lose earlier updates? Is this possibly a symptom of something going wrong?

Dell laptop running Win7. Also runs CCleaner, SpyBot & MalwareBytes.

Usually, on reboot after installing updates, a percentage complete is displayed, but occasionally in Win 7 you do get this rapid count into the thousands instead. I assume it's the number of individual changes being made rather than the number of updates installed but I really don't think it's anything to be concerned about.

Thanks for that reply, I guess I can stop worrying about that.

This would be updates to the Windows Registry, i.e., some 24k registry updates. It is expected that most are a repeat of the registry entries for standard Windows products.
