My computer supposedly has a 250 gb hard drive, but it only says 226 what would be the cause for that?

should say 232 when you right click the drive and click properties...

the number they put on the box isn't really the actuall size ... something to do with the difference between binary and decimal ... the true size is its cylinders x sectors x heads x 512 .. and that's where you get 232GBs from

I have seen computers with up to 7 gig hidden diagnostic partitions. So, if it should say 232, it could have a 6 gig diagnostic partiotion.

    HDD manufactures go by 1000megabytes = 1 gigabyte, where as it's 1024 megabytes = 1 gigabyte.

    they stuff it up from the begging, 1000bytes = 1 kilobyte, 1000 kilobytes = 1 megabyte, 1000 megabytes = 1 gigabyte.

So over the 'megs' you get lost space.
