Morning geeks. I have installed my old HD from my old Dell on W98. All is fine, with it recognised in My Computer. I want to use it as a backup, but it still has loads of old (and new!) stuff on it. Do I simply format it and then copy over to it?

I just wondered if formatting it will affect the C drive, cos when I explore the 2nd drive, it has lots of my current files like pics and Word docs on it that I didn't deliberately put there - why is this?

Also, what backup tool would you recommend? I have taken the tool from the XP disc and I also have a CD with a copy of Genie Backup Manager 4.

    Thanks.

If your PC worked fine before you put the drive in, it should keep working fine if you format it.

To answer your question about what to use for a backup program, I have always used Norton Ghost, but I have also heard good things about Acronis.

    Good luck.
