2nd harddisk for Windows or swap file?

I was having a conversation with a techie on possible performance gains a gamer could see just by having a second hard disk drive. I believe he was either telling me to have Windows installed on its own drive, with applications and files on a separate drive, or else to simply have the swap file located on the separate drive instead of the Windows drive.

Is there any merit to any of this? If so, which configuration would be best for a typical user/gamer? Currently, on a machine with 2 gigs of RAM, I have Windows and applications installed on C:, no swap file on C:, and a 3-4 gig swap file on my second hard disk F:, which is otherwise empty.

    Should I:

    1) Leave it as is

    2) Add a small swap file on C: but otherwise leave it as is

    3) Remove my applications and files to F:, leaving only Windows on C: -- if I do this, how should I set up the swap files?

    4) Put the large swap file back on C: and forget this whole silly notion

Any help or advice setting me straight would be appreciated.

It is recommended to let Windows manage the page file (swap, essentially) on the windows drive, and manually set 1.5x the amount of RAM (3GB in your case) on a secondary hard drive (must be a separate drive for this to benefit, NOT simply a second partition.)

It sounds like thats pretty much your current situation. Media and other standalone things are fine to be run from other drives, but its usually recommended to keep games on the Windows drive. :)
