I have had a "crash" in that I have a registry problem. I can find no one to work on registry issues, so my next idea is to install this hard drive into another running computer as a slave.

I know I have to set the jumpers on the 2nd hard drive as a slave, but do I have to do anything to the already current hard drive? Are there any setting changes that have to be made?

    Both OS are XP Home.

Also, when I get the 2nd hard drive installed, how do I access the data? Is it done from "My Computer"? Because it had/has a registry problem, will I have any problem accessing it?

Thanks for any and all advice.

    Hallie,

First let me preference this with I'm just a minor Geek but here's what I would do:

Flash the most current BIOS (if you don't know how to do this, GOOGLE it). You can do this with a CD if you can't use the HD with the registry problem.

After you've installed the slave HD, change the BOOT priority in the Settings menu. (When you power up, hit F2 before your blue Welcome screen appears. Follow the straightforward directions to select BOOT order and make sure the slave HD is first).

I'm not sure, but it seems logical that the slave HD would become C: after changing the boot order... ?

    Anyone???

Please don't flash the BIOS! could cause some major problems if done wrong, and at this point is not necessary.

You have got everything just about spot on about setting the jumpers etc. The new HD in the slave location will be in my computer, most likely as D: or E:

I would try and see if you can access files first and if you have any problems doing so we will work from there trying to get you access, but you may end up having to format the hard drive.

KimCaroline, don't dredge up a thread from 2006. I'm sure in 4 years the OP found a solution. Check dates before you offer a solution; if it is more than a year old, changes are good the person has found a solution or might even have a different computer.
