Hi guys. I just put together a new system on an Asus P4P800 SE mobo with WinXP pro. Master HDD is a Sata Maxtor and all went well. I then added a old Maxtor IDE 40g as a slave and things seem ok but in computer management the IDE is listed as Disk 0 and the Sata (master with the OS on it) is listed as disk 1. Is this anything to be concerned about? I have the Sata listed as first in the bios and it was installed first.
    Thanks

my rig is set up similar .. .and i dont think it should be a problem unless you are experiencing performance issues ... im not .. although im questioning why you put your IDE as slave, but again if it's working properly it's best to leave it that way lol

If the SATA drive has the OS, should the backup IDE be set as a master also? Sorry for the noob question.

the way mine are set up .. the IDE HDD are on a different channel than my SATA drive(which is my boot drive) ... i would think that the IDE drive should be set to single as well as the SATA ... but im kinna a n00b when it comes to SATA drives ... if it's working fine I wouldn't change it

i know that one IDE channel can hold two devices .. thus you set the HDDs as master and slave if you have two and single if you have one on the channel ... but I dont know how many drives a SATA channel can hold ... AFIAK the jumpers are there to tell the BIOS which one is which on that particular channel

this is how i set my jumpers

IDE Channel 1: 80 GB HDD - Master
    250 GB HDD - slave
IDE Channel 2: DVD/CDR Dr - single (shows as master in the BIOS)
IDE Channel 3: SATA 80 GB HDD - single (shows as master in the BIOS)

there was also some settings in the "Integrated Periphrals":
OnChip Serial ATA Mode - IDE
OnChip Serial ATA - Enhanced Mode
    - Serial ATA 1 Mode - IDE-3 Master
and in the "Advanced BIOS Features" Menu:
Hard Disk Boot Priority - [press enter and set your SATA drive you want to boot from into the first position]

that's what worked for me, your BIOS setup may be different ... I googled around w/ "IC7-G SATA boot setup" or so ... and found out on another forum

Thanks a lot then Pyrate, I'll leave it how it is then I guess since it seems to work fine.
