3.5 Hdd Partition Ok Win 7 But Parameter Incorrect Win 10

Hi.
WD Blue 3.5 HDD 3Tb partitioned 50% as D data , rest as E downloaded progs storage.
works fine in win 7 64bit pro.
Exact same pc now with win 10 64bit pro installed a few days ago, same everything else, just swopped out SSD and installed win 10 to new SSD. all HDDs etc not attached when doing so.
Insert D/E into a powered 3.5 Caddy, Usb.
Plug in and G appears (aka D) but H (akaE) says incorret parameters.
revert PC to win7, plug HDD into Mboard again and bootup, ChkDsc appears and wants to attend to H.
After a few secs boot continues, and hey presto I can see D and E.
so reDo PC as win10, put drive back into caddy, boot up, plug caddy in, and now its H and I (as I have another portable usb plugged in) , and it says incorrect parameters.

What is win 10 up to ?

My plan was to copy paste the contents onto new SSD's I have yet to install.
if win 10 keeps doing this I cannot do so., certainly for all my purchased progs on E !

I have other HDDs 3.5 inch to copy data onto new SSDs as well.

Would I fare better plugging them into the PC with its sata cables, as they used to be with win7, though it would be win10 viewing them ?
will that wreck them, dare not lose them to some manic act of win10, but as it is, its messing this one up causing checKdisc to fix it only to mess it up again. I am watching the transparent button flickering red in the left side, yet it lives in win7 ok.
