    I have a asus P5P800 motherboard intel pentium 4 3GHz
    with ameritrends bios latest ver
boot drive is a western digital WD Raptor on a SATA third primary
i want to install a maxtor diamondmax 10 300GB PATA as additional storage
i put the 300 in the IDE primary master as the secondary master and slave are the dve rw and rom

when i hook up the drive and check the bios bios only recognizes the 300 as 33.8 GB.
LBA is enabled and i am running windows home with service pak 2.
if i boot into maxblast 4 at start up it does recognize the drive as 300GB but then tells me i am running windows and should use windows maxblast to set up hard disk. but evertime i use the windows version it only shows the maxtor as 33.8 GB
i tried using dos version cause it shows the maxtor as 300GB then i partioned it into 3 drives smaller than 137GB and when i reboot the drive shows up in my computer but only as 33.8 GB and shows it as RAW.
this is driving me nuts i have tried everything read everything i can read and follow the directions but nothing seem to work . very frustrating need help!!!

lets put it this way. If you hard drive can hold 300gb without any errors. just ignore bios. I have seen lots of BIOS's giving false results and my and my friends computers all work fine.

If on the other hand this is genuinely worrying you i am unsure on what to do. But as the old saying goes if it aint broke dont fix it. if you get 300gb just leave it in my opinion.

problem is though that whenever i try to set the drive up and do the install from dos version of maxblast is shows as 300GB but when i reboot and go into my computer the drive shows up but is RAW and it says it isn't formatted. if i try and use maxblast through windows drive only shows that it is 33.8GB and i do install then reboot and go to my computer drive shows as 33.8 and is RAW.

yes set it up as slave. What exactly do you want the hard drive for? If it is just backup make it slave.

okay i am going to try putting 300 to slave and see if that makes any difference thinik i may have already done this i can't remember i have tried so many things. hope it sees the full drive. yes i am just using it as additional storage as the raptor is only 75 Gb i think

hooked the 300GB back up and it is the slave on the secondary IDE . still is only recognized as 33.8 GB. I don't understand???? this computer is newer than my older one and it is fine on the old one?????
    HELP!!!!!!!
the raptor 75 GB is anSATA drive and is the master boot drive . Can you run a PATA and SATA drive together??? i mean i think you should be able to. What is it that i am doing wrong?

okay i am now writing zeros to the 300GB drive and starting all over again. no matter what i do the bios even though it upgraded to the latest is still not recognizing the full capacity of the drive, only sees it as 33.8 GB . running windows xp service pak1 then installed maxblast 4 and ran it from windows still not full capacity. i am at my wits end, this is just so puzzling as this is a new computer compared to the one i pulled the drive out of???? looks like i'll give it one more try and then i am going to have to purchase one of those ultra ATA/133 pci cards, like i want to confused purchase anything more!!!!

That's your problem SP1 only can go up to 200 GIGS you need SP2 to see your all 300 GIGS.....

OR partition your harddrive to 2 X 150 GIGS and you will be okay....
