32 bit processor vs 64 bit processor

    hello

    i have Processor : AMD Athlon 64 3200+ @ 2200 MHz with Operating System : Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition 5.01.2600 Service Pack 2

    i been told if i upgrade my Operating System to a 64 bit my computer will go faster is that true :confused

    i don`t have much money to spend i been looking at Xandros Desktop Home Edition - Retail that is only $28

    if i do go with Xandros will it work with my Processor

    I'm not sure about other OS's, but with Windows, the 64 bit edition can handle more than 4 gigs of ram, where the 32 bit couldn't handle more than 4 gigs of ram. Theorectically, 64 bit programs will be faster, but they have to be 64 bit programs. A 32 bit program won't work faster on a 64 bit processor.
