Okay folks. Enough of the (-)ve vibes here! ;)

35 years and two days ago (and yeah it REALLY happened!), I was only nine at the time, but I remember it as if it were yesterday - Man made the first steps on an extra-terrestrial object (The Moon).

Pause for a few moments and contemplate what was not only a major scientific achievement, but a step forward in the evolution of humanity.

my grandfather worked for nasa at the time. I believe he worked for the mecury, Apollo, and the other one at that time. He collected data from instruments.

All with less computing power than is found in your calculator.

Any now were going to spend several hundred billion dollars to reproduce that feat.

    G.T. R.I.P February 4, 2007. You will be missed.

I sat up with my fiance to watch it. My parents went to bed.

I remember commenting that my grandfather's first paying job was breaking wild horses in Kansas & Missouri, and he'd lived to see Man walk on the moon. His generation saw the greatest amount of real technological change of any generation in history.

I got to meed Jim Irwin (Apollo 15) before he died in '91. Great guy.

It was a wonderful day for me yesterday. I had this on my mind all day...Constant thoughts of where we've been, and where we may go clouded my brain.

I think in today's day and age of mid-east politics, armchair generals/Presidents/scientists it does the 'soul' good to remember a not too distant time when most people had one thing that is short supply today - belief. Belief in our nation, our science and our God, whatever you perceive him to be.

We often need to take a step back from the petty goings on of a busy life in over drive and just think of what a wonderful world it can be. Maybe it's not so great for many of us a.t.m., but the challenge is to take the stumbling blocks that life deals us and turn them into the stepping stones of achievement on a multitude of levels.

What is perhaps the greatest achievement of humanity to date is a testimony and source of encouragement to these goals. ;)

I was fortunate enough to witness the launch of this great venture, and still have a lot of the original souvenirs.

Check out some of the Apollo 11 memorabilia here:-
