3dmark scores terrible

i got 4843 on a dual core 3.0 ghz processor, with a gig of ram, and an ATI radeon x800 xl what could possible be wrong, I didn't even get to 30 fps.

 

How about some more information like system specs (an Everest log would be ideal) and the benchmark utility used etc?

From the looks of things, you are about on par with your video card within 3dmark05.

As far as I know, 3dmark05 does not use the full functionality of dual core cpus.

 

Nothing is wrong thats the right score for your vidcard,remember 3dmark05 isnt testing your cpu,its testing your vid card,set the options of your vidcard all to performance,this will give you a score close to 6000,this is all you can get with that card without overclocking.

3dmark 05 is a stupidly high end benchmark,it really isnt a pleasure to watch unless you have sli,if your thinking of buying a new vid card,thats exactly what they wanted you to think

 

so do you think I need a new card, I only want to play games like hl2 and doom3, or is my card good enough?

 

your computer will play hl2 with everything maxed out,16x AF,4x AA,on pretty much any resolution you wish,doom 3 will also do the same apart from the ultra setting in doom 3,in which you need a 500meg vid card for textures

If I wasnt clear,3dmark 05 is just a trick to make you want a faster card,I would be very suprised if ATI and NVIDIA dont own futuremark and have made this rediculous benchmark

Your system has pretty good specs and will play any current game, and probably any game in the next year or two.

Just make sure you are using the latest video card drivers as they can make a difference.

 

thanks I was wondering though when the time comes how much does a new processor cost, because I hear it is alot cheaper to build your own.
