Ok I have just gone through my 2nd video card and this is getting ridiculous. My first one died about 2 years ago and since I had a 2 yr warrenty I got it fixed. Now about 1 yr ago I bought a Nvidia GeForce ti4800 about 6 months ago it died also but I had lost the reciept and unfortunately was not able to return it. I then put in my old one that had been fixed and now today that one died I have a very old voodoo3 3000 now in my machine. But why the hell are all my video cards dieing this is driving me insane. Bear in mind that the machine I have the problems with is NOT my gaming machine but just used as my server.

    PLEASE help GEEKS!!!!

If youre just using command line console for dedicated game servers, he is correct, just get a cheapo card card. Also it's likley that any software errors would be worked out if you get an older card.

My (game/web) server is running a intergrated card atm on a low res, which isnt ideal as it shares main system memory, reducing the performance of the machine, but it works which is the main thing.

It might be that the port your plugging it into is defective. if its AGP, try a PCI card instead.

As I said I have done nothing to the bios or any kindof overclocking ever. But on the one card I think the capacitor is blown could that be caused by overheating? And on that same card the fan is not working.

The other card physically I can't tell if anything is wrong all the caps look good and the fan does work on the card so I can't tell what is wrong. And I do notice when I have it in my machine, I see horizontal lines so there is some kindof connection.

Thats starting to sound a lot like bad power from the slot or bad power from the PSU, but as you don't seem to be having any other problems with other devices then I'd hazard a guess its not the PSU. Fans breaking (or, strictly speaking, fan headers) is usually because some other component blew up. Sounds a lot like you got a spike of power in the slot, or somthing shorted.

Get a pci card, (presuming they are all AGP cards), if that dies then it must be the power supply (therfore, swap it out), or if THAT isnt it it will be the motherboard.

And make sure there isnt any debris in the slot either that could cause such a problem.

Don't splash out on it too much, bear in mind you dont need any eye candy, and as MT said 8MB is sufficient to run a server with.

Is there anything else other then bad luck that I have been through all these video cards? I just don't have a clue. If it isn't my mother board and I have an antec case and I have never heard anything bad about them. Could it be monitor even though that doesn't make sense to me or my bios???
