Hi ive just upgraded to 4gb of ram from 2gb, everything was working fine until the upgrade now my pc begins to boot, gets just about up to where i would get a post beep and restarts, it will just continue to do this until i kill the power, ive tried taking off my gfx card (8800gtx) and i still have the issue, so its obviously not a power issue, ive increased my overvoltage from 1.8v to 2.2v, no luck, my bios has the latest installed, and im out of ideas, oh it does work with 3gb however, i did inititally think this is due to the whole 32bit vs 64bit ram issues, and i do have xp 64x on dual boot, but seeing as though it doesnt even post, im pretty sure its not even an o/s issue

    my specs are:

    xp x32 and x64
    2gb ocz 6400 ram
    8800gtx
    500gb hdd
    gigabyte p35-ds3 mobo
    650w psu

any ideas would be greatly appreciated

    Thanks!

Does it boot with the new RAM installed by itself? Does it boot with the old RAM installed in those two slots?

Situations like these just don't happen, there is a reason for it, and it has to do with the hardware change you just made. So we just need to find out what exactly caused it.

    Can try this:

New ram in dimm slot 1 and 3
old ram in dimm slot 2 and 4

Your board is dual channel and that might possibly be on of the pairings.

thanks for that, after switching around the order i noticed that one of the sticks of ram is definately bad, i get a blue screen on xp loadup! so rma for that, but the other problem is when i tried to put my overclock settings back in, with only 3gb's of ram installed it just keeps restarting

Watch the timings on the different pairs, and if your sending one stick try to send the "kit" back so you will having a matching pair again (batch).
