I'm betting in the long run you'll do both! That screen does look awesome!

I'm not interested in gaming with three cards, mostly due to folding. But, with both options, I've yet to decide. It takes me a few months to make the decision.

Well, I'll see, since I just ordered a 3rd 970. :-D For gaming and folding. :major

Post how it turns out, folding hates me now.
Ran a dual 290x rig overnight an got no points at all.

Well, I can't find my 3-way sli bridge, anyway, I did order an EVGA 3-way sli bridge in the same order as the new card, but it states it is still packaging. My card should be here Friday. Luckily, folding should not be an issue.

Well, my bridge is coming in supposedly on Wednesday. I'm getting this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814998086

Now, on to 4k. I've read that a lot of people are crying about how their FPS have dropped quite a bit, and how it isn't as good as 144hz monitors. Me personally, I've never used those kinds of monitors, so, I'm use to 60hz. It looks fine on my HP zr30w.

So, I'm currently looking at this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=0JC-0007-00009&Tpk=samsung%20590

It will be odd, having 1 27" asus 3d monitor 1080p, one 30" IPS 1600p monitor, and one 28" 4k monitor. Not sure how I'll put that together.

Not many reviews on how a 3 x 970 will look on 4k. I know that scaling on most games don't do well on 4k. Everything will be tiny. But, then again, when I went 1600p, I was like wow, things are tiny.

Only real games I play are WoW, and World of Tanks, civ 5, and civ BE.

Got my 3rd gtx 970. Put it in and boom, no post. Fans would spin for .5 seconds and nothing. Tried everything I could think of for a quick fix. Even pulling all cards out, nope, no post.

Finally moved the computer to my kitchen table, disconnected everything power related, pulled the psu and set the psu to the side. Hooked up only the motherboard and cpu power, and it posted. Awesome. Added the new GPU and it posted. So, I'm back online at the moment, with only one card in. Tomorrow, I'll add a 2nd, then a 3rd again. Hopefully it was just a weird coincidence. I'm not folding with this card yet, I'll break it in when I have all three in.

Btw, my PSU is a Seasonic Platinum 1000 watt. So, this should be good to handle 3 970s.

I'm just happy it is working now.

I am not saying you might do this....
Check your video card power cables, there are some marked PCIe and others you should not use (EPS12V). I did this exact error on a quad 290x setup and it stumped me for a bit.

I'll check in the morning. But, all three cards are in, and running, but the OS does not recognize all three. Sees two, that is it. Odd. I even switched around the cables.

I'm planning on just buying some custom cables, to see if that helps. Won't do now since the holidays, probably next month.

Check your lanes on the MB, you may have to configure your PCIe slots in your BIOS.

I had to use my back three cards to get it to work. I first tried 3-way closest to the cpu, didn't work, the other side did.

Most say never to buy 3 cards, since the heat will rise and cause problem on the top card. Always water cool them.

My motherboard is turned 90 degrees, so I hope to not have that same problem. Case management can't be helped on this case.
