Howdy ... my old rig died on me so I am building a new one. I got a 4TB drive and I found in order for windows to use it all I have to have something called GPT? I did some reading on it and I am confused about where I'm suppose to get it. Also I was reading that I had to change the boot mode to UEFI and the windows 7 installation has to be bootable in the UEFI mode and this confused me because it didn't say anything about the GPT and when I was reading about the GPT it stated nothing about the UEFI.
So can anyone tell me how I can install win 7 and have access to the whole drive? My specs are in my sig. The Ryzen rig. Thanks for reading my post.:)

Wellsir ... I used the software AOMEI Partition Assistant to convert the MBR to GPT without having to reinstall windows. I had to change my boot prorities to the UEFI on the hard drive. The only problem is one of the partition is showing 718GB, in the partition assistant, but is showing a capacity of only 348Gb. The other 3 partitions are showing there correct size. Trying to figure out if the software can correct this.

This is the software I used. As you can see the one partition has 718GB, but I only have 348GB free. Anyone see a way to correct it? partition.png

You could try see if scanning the partition using PrivaZer

It might free up the space...
    Good luck,

Your 4tb hard drive is showing a total 3.64tb,which is the difference in how the hard drive works out
    https://tinyurl.com/yybwvmjt
    Claimed Capacity Real Capacity
    128 GB = 119.2093 GB
    512 GB = 476.8372 GB
    2 TB = 1.819 TB
    4 TB = 3.638 TB
I would check in computer management in Windows to see what size it shows there. before trying to adjust-
It does seem anomalous-- If adjusting, reduce size of G: first, as this will then give you free space to add to F:

Okay ... I deleted the F partition and recreated it. That did the trick. New problem. After installing 161 windows update I get a message for one update stating my hardware is not compatible with this version of windows ... it that were the case why was I able to install all the updates? I thought it was just intel doing that crap, not amd. No way on God's green earth am I going to dish out some dough for 10. M$ can kiss my grits!!! Is there a way to get around this?

It seems that you should be able to run Windows 7 ,but with a bit of tinkering
I believe this is your link-perhaps you have already been there
    https://downloadcenter.intel.com/pr...e-i7-4770K-Processor-8M-Cache-up-to-3-90-GHz-
From what I see around, you have managed to get over the usb 3 problem in installing Windows 7- so thehardware not supported seems to be your main problem- Perhaps trying to ignore for now, might be worth a try.
You never said what this was.
I see around the web, that installing different drivers has helped.
What hardware is not supported ?

Greetings again... I don't know if this will work but I have been following the creator of this video for a number of years and he seems to sort things out.

    Good luck,
    s.

Probably best to make a system backup before you start.

Hi ... you are looking at the wrong rig ... it's the Ryzen that I'm working on. ... I was doing a bit of research and found that M$ installed updates that block me from getting anymore. Here a link to the site with the info ...

    https://www.csoonline.com/article/31...ake-ryzen.html

That is so under handed of M$ to prevent updates to force people to buy 10. Now I am really determine not to use any more of M$ OS. https://www.techsupportforum.com/images/smilies/nono.gif

They say there is a patch ... but I wonder why I couldn't uninstall those updates and hide them so I can continue to get the rest of the updates or is there something to them where they are requiredo_O

Wellsir ... that site I provide a link to did the trick. I am now getting the rest of my updates. Take that M$!

Okay on to the next problem ... no sound. I have a surround sound and I hook my plugs in according to the manual where they are suppose to be but no sound. I did install the drivers for the audio, so that is the next thing I am working on.

Okay ... my new problem is the USB 3.0 PCIE card isn't working. The device manager states it can't be started and gives a code 10 ... doing research on the problem. I went to the manufactures website ... Rosewill for the RC 508 card. Got the driver and installed it. The device manager has it listed as Renesas Electronics USB 3.0 Host Controller. Any idea as to how to get this to work please post. Thanks.

I called Rosewill tech support on the card and apparently it is defective. They are sending me a replacement.

I tried using this new usb hub by Anker the 10 port with a charger ... it cause windows to crash when I hooked it up with all the usb devices attached. I tried a different usb port ... no dice ... and the lights for each device are not on, but the power light is. I hear the usb connection sound when I hook it up, but I don't see it on the computer.

These hubs are expensive. I am surprised it doesn't work. Always something.https://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/images/smilies/new/nonono.gif I got the hub from ebay so I am asking for a refund.

I was having a problem with DirectX not being compatible for a flight sim program I have ... I was able to find out what the problem was ... a poster on the flight sim board gave me the solution ...
