5.1 Help

I am about to buy some 5.1 surround sound speakers. I have no clue how to set them up to give me the best surround sound experience possible. If someone could just point me towards a good tutorial or just tell me in detail, I would really appreciate it.

 

Before you buy any speakers, make sure you can see a demo of them in the store. Read the box thoroughly. Make sure they have the type of connectors that are compatible with your sound card ( this shouldn't be a big deal, but what a pain in the ass it is to get them home to find out you can't hook them up ) The next thing I'd do, is check out your sound card's ports. Are they clearly marked? Do you know where your front channel, rear channel, center channel and sub are going to be hooked up? Other than that, it's not really that big of a deal other than reading the instructions Which speakers are you looking at?

 

I'm looking at the Logitech Z-640. I would go for the 680, but I'm slightly short on cash, lol.

 

Logitech makes some sweet speakers for the price. They're fairly simple to hook up too... before you buy them check out their website and see if they have a manual to download, that should help you have an idea of what you have to do to hook them up before you buy them

I just got the Z 640 a couple of months ago. Gotta say I love em (gaming and music cranked up loud). No complaints at all.

 

I have Speakers from a old DVD player.
What would i need to set them up with my comp?
