5400RMP 32MB Cache VS. 7200 RPM 16MB Cache?

Both Western Digital. Which is better and why? I'm a gamer. I'll just use this drive(the 5400) and the other as storage (the other post I made).

 

sorry the 5400 is 1 TB. The 7200 is 250. I'm looking for performance (gaming)

 

Despite the larger cache, the 7200rpm drive will have a faster seek time then the 5400rpm. Also, the OS will be more efficient on the 250G drive then on the 1T drive because of allocation unit size.

 

what if i partition a 500 gb drive in half and install windows on one partition? would that increase performance as apposed to using the whole drive?

 

The 7200rpm drive will still be faster. I would install the 1T drive as a second drive and use it for saving games and other data.

No, seek time is relative to a combination of things including cache and RPM.

 

Yes; the further the heads have to travel, the longer the seek time will be. If your first partition is, say 120GB, your seek times might be a second or so lower.
