56k modem problems

hello all,

Is there a utility out there somewhere that lets you control what speed
your 56K v.92 modem connects at?

Heres the deal....
I have two systems running on my Linksys Wireless-G router, but I have
a third system (a Athlon XP 2000+) in my kids room that uses a 56k modem.

I went and paid for a 56k dial up account, so he can connect with it.
But it doesn't connect at 56k, it will only connect at 28.8 and sometimes
26.8... But never better than 28.8 kbps
Well its to slow and he won't even use it.

Its a PCTEL Platinum v.92 Modem

Is there anyway to force it to connect at atleast 45 Kbps or faster or simply disconnect if its not? Are there any utilities out there that will do that?

Probably not, but I thought I would ask.

Well I was trying to avoid that.
He likes to play games online (SWG, Americas Army, etc.) and it kills my connection. I have DSL connected to the router.

 

What operating system is your modem in?
Have you set the max speed to 115?

 

that's basically within the normal range of a dial-up connection.
u can use accelerator programs but change is still very minimal.
dial-up is pretty much limited. if u have the resources might as well upgrade.
