    Hi,

My 6-in-1 media card reader has 'disappeared' from "My Computer" after I updated the drivers on my PC recently. The 6 drives which appeared as "Removable Media" have gone, and I can only see my CD and DVD drives now.

Any bright ideas as to how I go about reseting the USB device to appear as removable media? All my other USB devices are working OK.

Attached is the Device Manager screenshot.

    Thanks in advance

Maybe you have, but have you restarted the pc after the update? If you have go to your pc's website and reinstall the drivers for your readers, this should put it all back. ed

    Thanks for the reply.

The 6-in-1 was built into the machine when I got it, and when I looked at the information on the manufacturer's website (Fujitsu Siemens), it said there was no separate driver required because it used one that came with Windows - helpful!

All I have dones is download the latest USB drivers for the different items shown on the attached Device Manager list, which installed OK.

How/where could I uninstall the device and ask the PC to "find new hardware", and would this automatically establish it as removable media?

All my other USB devices are working OK (Mouse, printer, Wireless).

    Regards,

    CraigP...

Go into the device manager and look under portable devices. ed

    Hello,

There is no "Portable Devices" branch on my Device Manager! - See the gif in the original posting.

Question - as it's a built in card reader, might it be a PCI device instead of USB? How can I check?

I suspect it is a USB device, so I was tempted to "Uninstall" each device on the USB tree one at a time and then "check for new hardware", but was scared I'd knacker it all even more!

When I plug a chip into the reader, it flashes (and it has a power on light), but this doesn't trigger any "plug and play" response from the PC as it used to.

    Does any of this help?

I have something simular with one of my card readers but as it's external, all I do is unplug it and then plug it back in. Rebooting the PC didn't help the device restart.
It''ll probebly be USB plugged directly into the USB header on the motherboard, If you can remove the side and then unplug it and plug it back in and see if that helps.
