6 year old sony laptop wont start up

    Hi folks I'm in need of some help? my 6 year old sony laptop seems dead, I have the power supply pluged in and when press the power button the power light and the battery light comes on for about 3 seconds than goes out. any ideas would be very helpful. and thanks in advance

    Hi,
    Have you tried powering up without the battery in, as some batteries when they've bit the dust and have a few dead cells can cause this type of issue.

    Have you opened it up and cleaned out the inside? A 6 year old laptop might have enough dust to cause heat problems. Heat will shut down any computer in a matter of seconds.
    You could also have a fan that isn't operational. If that's the case, again the heat will cause the laptop to turn off.

    thanks I'll try the no battey idea, also guess I'll take it all apart and do a good cleaning , if that don't work well I guess it's time for the laptop to retire
