I was thinking of doing another self build for myself. Everybody seems to have the best of the best and I wanna be one of those people. I was looking in the world of an AMD mainboard and cpu. I personaly have worked with AMD computers and I must say they are the best compared to Intel and cheaper by the way. Now that the 64 bit systems have came out I really not sure what to get, so if there is anyone out there that could help me out in finding a good mainboard and cpu, mainly for gaming, I would apriciated. Now I know some of you are asking why don't you try newegg or what ever, but the probablem is that I am not familiar with the new 64 bit systems....So please help....

I am willing to spend at least 250 bucks....plz try to keep in into that range or if anyone could go as cheap as posible that would be even better.....

    thankyou in advance

Right now I wouldn't yet go 64 bit because the only true 64 bit os is linux. Hope that helps.

From various reviews, the 'MSI k8n neo2 platinum' or the 'Abit av8 3rd eye' are the main choices coupled with as fast a chip as you can afford!! ;)

i would go with AMD 64 and not xp because xp is not going to made anymore

its hard to realy tell you just what to get because i do alot of Reconnaissance on parts and stuff before i buy anything

and what kind of games do you play ?

i myself play BF42/DC/and alot of other mods and BFV/i make my own mods for that game [BFV is hard on a pc to run with out lag] bf42 is not as hard on the pc as is bfv]

now are you building a new pc or just takeing out the old mobo and cpu ?

one thing about the 64s is they arent yet staying with 1 pin# the 754 is already dead and the 939 is on top right now

myself i am waiting till the 4500s come out or 5000s lol [i also just upgraded this beast here so i am broke lol [but even if i did have the cash to go and make a new system i wouldnt i would still wait]

may i ask what your running now

i couldn't resist but to debate this:p ... I think one of the problems you may be having is that the willemette core of your celeron is the worst thing to ever come out of an Intel production line ... even my old celeron(tualatin core) scored triple that of a 1.8GHz P4(willemette core) in some benchmarks and parred w/ an athlon XP of the same frequency ... and the fact you are using DDR RAM only makes it worse because the willemette was designed with RDRAM in mind. while the 64 bit line does outshine the current crop of P4s it's not by far, and that is why I'm waiting untill I see the 64-bit Intel line, plus an operating system that makes use out of the technology.

If you looking for lighting check out this place. Tons of stuff. For best Neons i would suggest these from xoxide.com

I have bought from them before, and there great. Also the coolermaster series are very bright, and reliable. I love them :D

Dont wanna get into the whole AMD vs Intel fiacso, but I've had both & I like the AMD much better than Intels. As with everything else its a matter of personal preference I reckon. Good thing about the 64's is that while there aren't any programs that truely take advantage of it? You will be ready in the future when Microsoft releases it's 64bit version of Windoze.

Cold Cathode lights are much cooler running than Neons, might wanna look into that as well.

Thankyou guys for all the responces. I would wait just a little bit before I start buying parts and spending my money on something that might not be worth it for now...I guess I'll wait until LongHorn is release to do my shopping, but just incase someone knew to keep it in my mind, what kinda of AMD processor is better Anthlon 64, 64 FX, or Semptron?

Semprons are essentially 32-bit versions of the 64-bit chip and their performance ratings are similar - they are available in 754 (one of them in 939) pin types.
The FX's are the top of the range chips and mainly aimed at servers.
The 64-bit chips are coming down in price all the time but are available in 754 and 939 pin types - the 939 is the one to go for for future upgrades.

i must apoligize, but i have to correct nitrowing :p
the sempron is a proccessor for value pcs ( a new duron)
the 64 is for home pcs
    the opertron is for servers
and the 64 fx's are for enthusists with a lot of money

i would suggest a 64, in a 939 pin socket, because that socket will have the longest upgrade life!

    hoped i helped
