Are 64bit graphic cards really bad or there just not too good?

can someone explain why 64bit graphic cards are bad

Well let's just say with a 64bit graphics card, u'd have the graphical capabilites of a Nintendo 64 =P . Though something which is ok is 64MB Graphic cards, they aint bad, though i'd use a 128MB or 256MB (and of course ATI all the way , heh.) . But yea if u wanna deal with 64-bit , i know they have proccessors that use 64-bit technology and those are hell good , and they shall be ideal for running Windows Longhorn when it comes out. But yea , hope that answers your question =P

It depends on what you are trying to do with a 64 bit graphic card that would determine whether or not it is good. If you just like to surf the web and use email and microsoft office programs, etc... then a 64 bit graphics card is just fine for you. If you want to play the latest video games with the highest quality settings enabled so you can see the most detail, then a 64 bit graphics card is not for you. If you do a lot of video editing, then a 64 bit graphics card is not for you. Basically, it's up to you. If you run games or a lot of graphic intensive tasks, then you should really look at getting a video card with more memory.

mmm'k, do i not exist ? I think i mentioned something before. why is it labelled as a 64-bit graphics card? o_O I have a feeling there's a confusion between that and a 64MB Graphics card.

    I don't think I understand your question?

Ok there's 64MB and 64-bit, truth is they are very different =P like i said 64bit graphics is the equivlant of a Nintendo 64's graphics capabilites, lol. Though 64MB is probably the type of card ur talking about and yes that's not a bad amount of Video Memory but it could be better. Like when u use Windows XP, you can have 16-bit graphics and 32-bit graphics right. So when they use Longhorn you'll be able to use a 64-bit layout which gives a slight 3D-ness to it, equal to those of a N64 ..... hmm... i think i've probably confused you more, lol

Actually, I think you are confused. I'm no hardware guru by any means, but, here are a couple things:

    1. Nintendo 64 wasn't 64 bit graphics :)
    2. 64 bit is used to describe the bus width, not the quality of graphics. 64 bit is considerably slower than 128, which is considerably slower than 256.

But that's delving into Processor's aint it?

you know the whole 64-bit technology.

And on the note of confusion, Yea probably, lol

And i might add to that too, N64 not running on 64-bit graphics , well call me crazy but on alot of spec listings for consoles such as the PS2 , it says 128-bit graphics.
And when you look at some of the SNES games it says 16-bit and in some cases 32-bit graphics. Though word has it 32-bit was leaning closer to the PS1. o_O But if I'm wrong i'd like to hear your opinion of what the N64 ran on.

Glad you brought that up Adrynalyne because I was about to asked what in the world the width of the data path had to do with display quality.

Still looking for a link, but there was a huge stink back in the day that N64 wasn't a true 64 bit machine until that POS add on module came around.

The wider the data path the faster the card. Really depends on what you want to do with your system. If your into high end graphics and gaming I would get a card with a wider data path.

    Adrynalyne,

    N64 partial specs:
Custom 64-bit MIPS R4300 RISC CPU (93.75 MHz)
    64-bit Buffer
    64-bit Registers
    64-bit Data Path
64-bit RISC "Reality Immersion" Graphics Co-Processor (rcp)
Utilizing Reality Immersion Technology; (62.5 Mhz)

    2D GRAPHICAL CAPABILITY
    256 x 224 to 640 x 480
    Limited by TV Standards
    Flicker Free Interlace Mode Support
    21-bit Color Output
32-bit RGBA Pixel Color Frame Buffer Support

Looking at the graphics specs, I would have to say that today's video cards beat the N64 hands down when it comes to graphics output.

    Oh, no question about that.

I was just referring to the big ruckus back in the day over N64 not actually being 64 bit. I'm still looking for a link.

    But PS2 is 128-bit right?
