64bit M-Tron (AMD) Laptop Driver Woes!

Discussion in 'Software' started by BleedingEdgeOfTechnology, Mar 24, 2006.

  1. I purchased an M-Tron 64bit (AMD) laptop ("D47K") last year and still have numerous unresolved driver issues. The internal modem (SmartLink) isn't recognized (NetZero gives repetitive "Modem already in use" errors, even if all modem references are disabled - or for that matter uninstalled from the hardware device manager. (I recently acquired a 3Com PCMCIA LAN/modem, model "3CXEM556B", but that didn't change anything.) I can't play DVDs (I installed Intervideo WinDVD nd I get a "Create Overlay Failed, reduce your screen resolution/color depth" error, which persists no matter what the screen settings -- funny, I got some kind of a copyright error last time I tried, even though I was attempting to play a store bought DVD!?) I also could not get the BlueTooth LAN to work (although thankfully I could get high speed internet via the LAN (?) cable! Every time I attempt to install the drivers I have, no matter which scenario I follow, either the installation fails or the hardware still doesn't work afterwards anyway. Has anyone worked through these issues, or might be willing to work with me on them - step by step, or even offer any helpful advice? When I contacted the supplier, I was given the run-around about how the hardware outpaces the software - especially when it comes to AMD. (Everyone waits to see Intel's 64bit processors!?) But come on! This AMD Laptop has been out for over a year now and is hyped up everywhere, so there must be other users facing the exact same issues. (Yes, they told me to go search for 64 bit drivers on the internet. Some "support", huh? Only problem is I can't find anything that works. And if it was as easy as that, wouldn't they have done that themselves already, and be freely offering the drivers instead of the song and dance routine!?) -- Thanks!

Not heard of M-Tron before but did come across the same model number as your Laptop at this site, http://www.pro-star.com/index.cfm?mainpage=download&modelno=4764/D47K

Are you running a 64bit Windows version ( system Properties > General will tell you this )? as if you are using the normal 32bit windows XP , that will be why you'd find it difficult to find/install drivers for it as they are very limited/hard to find and will not work with 32bit XP if you do find the drivers.
