How can i find out if my BIOSTAR 800MHZ FSB P4M900-M4 MO/BO and SL6S4 P4 2.8GHZ 533MHZ FSB CPU, Or the new one I might be getting; SL6WG P4 3.2GHZ 800MHZ FSB; Can handle 64 bit OS, like xp pro 64bit?

    Thanks.

The mo/bo book does state that I can install, 2000/XP/Vista, but that doesn't really answer my question. I'd think that there are certain system requirements to be met; anyone know?

THat info was a little helpful but it was for vista, and it didn't say anywhere how to determine if a cpu is 32 or 64 bit; that's the problem..

I done some research and figured out how to find out if your installed CPU is x86 or x64.

    Method 1: Using Regedit

Go to Start -> Type regedit

    Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DESCRIPTION\System\CentralProcessor\0

From ProcessorNameString you will be able to see the name of your processor and from Identifier you will see the family of the processor and if it has 64 then it is 64-bit capable.

    Method 2: Using MSINFO32

Go to Start -> Type msinfo32.exe

From the System Information page under System Type you will find as x64-based PC.

But i still have no way of finding out if the one I'm thinking about getting is 64bit or not or even if any of the CPU's compatible with this board are 64 bit.. x.X

From what i read on that link, an 800mhz fsb p4's chances of being 64bit are good.

Before you jump into 64 bit do some research, there are issues you may not be aware of. There are both hardware, software and driver issues, all the pieces must work hand in hand. Do your home work or you may very well be unhappy and reloading the machine, 64 bit is not for everyone!

Yeah i kinda figured as much, i just don't know where to start or how to completely find out if my machine is or can be suitable for 64bit; that's why i posted here. lol

Curious do you run very intensive programs, if not it is more trouble then it is worth. I have a friend that is a graphics illustrator he upped his 7 from 32 to 64, waiting for his input.

I'm in to semi high end gaming like soul of the ultimate nation and for a P4 machine it takes all the performance boosts it can get. I'm also into watching anime and movies on my computer, High quality or HD at that. Which another thing i noticed about some of the HD formats I noticed "x264" , "h264" Note the "64", I thought maybe this had something to do with 64 bit OS. So you tell me, Is 64 bit operating system not for me?

WRT the CPUs the key word is "Instruction Set" which will indicate whether it can do 64Bit (calculations) or not.

If we do a google on:

    SL6S4 Instruction set;
    http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=27447

With the other CPU (SL6WG) I had to search for a P4 with 3.20 GHz, 1M Cache, 800 MHz FSB (but I can't find the sSpec number on that page?!?) but it matches what you listed:
    http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=27500&processor=&spec-codes=
    http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=27502&processor=&spec-codes=

In all 3 cases we can clearly see the CPUs are 32Bit and do not have IntelĀ® 64 technology/capability.

I wont go further and check whether the mobo chipset has the capacity to use 64Bit Instruction Sets.

Yeah I just found out i could of went duo core just as cheaply as buying the P4 board, Ram and cpu. Kinda kicking my self in the *** for it, seeing that this setup is gonna be one huge bottleneck. I might just sell all my PC stuff and try to build a cheap duo core system, it could be done; My mother..i mean my Gf doesn't like the idea though, lol. I have to sell some of my parts to get an HD for her laptop.. >_> Probably not leaving me enough to go duo core.

Thanks for all the info everyone.
