Hi, I have a 6800 GT 256 from Asus and the Smart Doctor monitoring software has a temperature monitor that currently has warnings enabled when GPU temp goes 90 celsius and the RAM goes to 70 celsius. However, I have heard that the max is 120 for the GPU. Is this accurate? And if so, what is the max for the memory? The memory temp seems to sometimes jump out in front of the GPU temp. Any ideas why? At the moment I kill the game that drives it over 70, but this is frustrating and I don't want to turn the settigs down.

    Hi
i can't help you with the max temp. of the ram, but the max temp. of the 6800 should be listed in the desktop just right click go to properties then settings and the advanced click on the 6800 gt tab and then temperature settings. (i have a NVIDIA GeForce 5900 se/xt)when i had the driver 77.72 the core slowdown threshold was 120° celcius, but when i installed the 77.77 driver it went up to 140° celcius. anyone know why???

Wowowowowo..... 120C??? Thats WAYYYYYY tooo hot!!! That would fry your card garunteed! unless you mean 120F.. then its about right.... Unless it does actually say 120C something is definitly wrong, i think.

Just for the record 120C is 248F, and 248 F is the boiling point of a car/truck engine....

although those are techinically the max operating temperatures for the core/memory, they will never reach that treshold as they fail way before that.

I just saw it again and it does say 120°C well now with the 77.77 driver it says 140°C in idle the graphic card reads 44°C and when i run 3Dmark05 it says 86°C thats just after the small vido ends. Everest says the same!!!! :(

Then why the heck it says: Notify when GPU core exceeds threshold??? If it fails before it reaches that temperature.

Will it fail before I can damage it? I had it get all kinds of artifacts etc. and then start to fail massively once when the case fans stopped working, but it seems OK afterwards. Perhaps these max temps are where the card physically disintegrates or melts, rather than fails to perform.
