This is on my girlfriends Toshiba Satellite C855D-S5232.
After booting the windows7 OS loads quick but it takes forever for the dialog box to show for user login. After login it runs fine. I've never seen this before and don't know what to look for to resolve this. I searched but haven't a clue yet as to where to look for a resolution.
As always thanks for any help!

    Hi Mike

If you choose and hit F8 at boot and boot into safe mode with networking is the PC quick to boot?

My thought is you have a startup app that is slowing the PC down! so to this end could you run the below and we can see if any startups are ones that "could" slow a PC down.

Yes the user login dialog box comes up normally when booting into safe mode w/networking.

I ran ccleaner and I still have the same issue with the 7 minute delay before user password dialog box in normal start-up

I've used 'msconfig' 'selective startup' and only have 3 startup items selected at this point -
    Synaptics pointing device driver
    Catylist Control Center
    and AVG free internet security

    I've defragmented the hard drive

I've ran "Disk Cleanup" in the system tools utility

Superantispyware removed 99 spyware issues succsesfully.

Malwarebytes full scan shows no issues

AVG full scan shows no issues

But I do have some distorted text characters in my font's which seem to remind me of a virus issue I had years ago - I can't remember what the solution was for that. (I hate getting old).

Also I can't seem to get this Norton antivirus completely uninstalled.

    I hope this info helps
    and thanks for your help!!!

Pardon my jumping in here but you can try this, http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4749: to remove Norton, but if you think you maybe having a reoccuring virus issue, I would head to the Malware Forum just to be safe. This is just my opinion.

Thanks Nick T! That worked fine for Norton uninstall. No harm... I apreciate you jumping in since she needs this PC back quick.
But I'll wait for DavidGP to respond before I open another thread in the malware forum, but I feel like you may be right.
    Thanks again!!!

I'll need to put this thread is on Hold for now - The machine would not function when she brought it to me 2 days ago. It's actually her daughters PC that would not boot...
Well, I've got it functioning, fast, and evidently virus free after 17 hrs work.
So she had to have it tonight for an online school class she's taking.
So when she brings it back I'll resume this thread.
Thanks for your help so far!!!
I'll run http://www.soluto.com/boot-time probably when she get's it in an 'inoperable condition' again soon.
Girls are girls, no offense intended to any girl other than my 2 girls right now who are so 'HARD HEADED" sometimes - Why not tell dad when the problem starts? But I take care of them well and they never tell me about issues until they get almost unmanageable!
But that's life, and I love it!
Thanks to you guys for the help for her so far...
And thanks again to everyone for all the help I've received on this forum in the past years!!!
    later...
    Mike :)
