You recon I'll do it tonight? Unless GT makes up for (quite a bit ;)) of lost time, I'll be the 3rd ever Major Geeks member to go 10k. Nearly time for my telegram from the Queen, uhh, I mean, message board software... telling me to GET A (frigging) LIFE!!!! :D

And no, I'm not gunna get there ONLY on spam. Even this seemingly meaningless post will have a topic to follow (if you like).

Today, I taught basic algebra to a 7 year old (thats Maths, by the way, not some strange aquaric mamalory oxidisation technique ;) ). It was fun! He had his first week of school this week, and he got a maths workbook. But he said to me "do you do this in big school?" So I said, obviously, "No, actually, we do maths with letters as well as numbers". He said somthing like "good, because this is boring" :p He kept asking me how it all worked, and we ended up sitting there for an hour or so just playing with numbers!

So I taught him about substituting numbers in place of letters, which is made easy with a magnetic blackboard, and then we touched on re-arranging equasions, but I think that was a bit much for a quiet Sunday afternoon. He got the principles of how to use letters instead of numbers in an equasion, which is MUCH more than I expected when I started. We also did some division and some "long" addition (or practiced rather, he learnt that at school).

Dunno why but I found that hugley satisfying. I wasn't onto that kind of maths till I was at least 4 years older than he is now. I recon if he is familiar with that sort of thing, even if he doesn't remember how it works when he gets taught it at school, it won't seem nearly as daunting as it will for everyone else.

    Anyway. Spam away ;)

Wow man, half my math class last year is about 6 months behidn that kid :p
i'm not kidding; a college level math intro course where half the people need to be taught how to solve a linear equation!

Oh, alright. 10k post here we come!

I got an induction day to my own school today. Haha! That was fun. Now I know that physics is going to absolutley rool, first time I'm gunna learn somthing new since Year 7 in the subject. Excelent. Slightly annoyed with Maths because they want me to do M1(mechanics) and S1(statistics), rather than M1 and M2. We'll see about THAT!

Anyway. To sum up why I've spent 10,000 posts of my life here : I love to help people where I'm able to. The technical forums are a perfect home for such a desire. I hope I've helped plenty of people over the two years, and I've been helped countless times by the outstanding knowlege of the userbase here.

And the Lounge is a great place to chill with the online friends I've made over the years, and friends that I hold highly.

So to everyone that I've had the pleasure of helping, or been helped by, or just chatted with .... THANK YOU!!! :D

    Hey Goldy!
Congrats on the 10,000 posts. Wasn't today your first day of school? How'd it go?

Yeah it was! Went pretty good! But, since we got all of our subjects today (induction) we got the maximum ammount of homework possible! Doh! At least I got Critical Thinking out of the way quickly... got set the homework online! Talk about technology! Just put in your details on the school's account and away you go. I think I did pretty good on the first assignment too.

Chemistry is easy... its just a primer to make sure we remembered everything from last year. Physics is the same. Design we've been set our coursework ALREADY!! Talk about jumpstart!

Ahh, I'm sure it'll be great :) I felt really odd yesterday evening. Sorta excited, sorta worried, sorta scared... sorta everything! So confusing! But it was alright when I got there... met some new people, saw some old friends, went for my first official off-site lunch (my house is within lazy-walking distance of the school). Good stuff :)

dammnit, goldy, you didnt invite me! heh, anyways, im amazed at the amount of maths + physics i've forgotten.... and can you give me any idea what the Crit Thinking is actually about?

And isnt your house one of the safer areas for people to go and have a fag, and not risk getting a £5 fine? lol

I'm going to hire space out in my wardrobe for people to keep their "equiptment" safe during the day :p

See, its like a double whammy of bummerage. Most people will bring fags and some money to buy some more, but then they get them confiscate AND their money "confiscated" too!

If anyone even THINKS about confiscating my Treo... there will be BIG trouble.

    Argument

In the example, Fred makes an argument which consists of the following:

    Reason
    - The notes on the internet are better than mine

Conclusion - so you should revise from them.

    “you should revise”
    is an element of persuasion

For all my fellow Yanks on the board,

"fags" is a slang term for "cigarettes" in Britain.

no, we are, as a matter of fact, using the american slang definition

    ;)

Cheers goldy, i managed to do it at about 6:00 AM...and then got into school to find out the class was cancelled :(
and cAnOfZoO.. lol.... its not bad, just.... really not as challenging as the other subjects

    It's critically boring in fact.

It is useful, unfortunatley, means I can disprove peoples arguments better and more technically ;)
