From my minor digging after receiving this card as a gift. Wiki already let me know what was up.

"Officially this series is meant to support only PCI Express Interface but some companies released AGP versions."

    Soooooooooooo.....Officially this card isnt supported???

bottom line everythings gravy besides anti-aliasing(possibly something else nothing notable). As soon as it has to render anything in anti-aliasing the gpu instantly flops over making the monitor lose signal and forcing a hard reboot. No hard drive lights or sounds of sorts.

Now thats the best case scenario, ive tryed all the drivers i can really think of for being a nvidia-noob. First was omegas latest forceware which gave me equal results as the latest nvidia force ware and latest Xtreme-G drivers. Certain older drivers allowed AA in CERTAIN games(only a FEW D3D games).

Just wondering if anyones played battleship with this card before, and can they fill me in on where to sink this batch.

Next drivers up are from the xfx support forums (162.18) and from somewhere else that seemed worthy (93.71 WHQL)

    7. "If you solve the problem on your own, please post that the issue has been addressed and that all is well. If you can include what you did, you may help someone else in the future." Will do, always tryin to help.

it would appear every thread ive found on google tells me that any driver besides 93.71 is worthless. but i think that this old driver is causing alot of compatibility problems in newer games.

Does the AA problem happen with all games? What do you have the AA set at, 2x or 4x or ? What happens with AA completely turned off?

:( Unfortunately, the 7900GS AGP is a fairly old card, and there may not be a whole lot you can do to get it to work correctly with current games. Many of the game developers will have patches on their web sites, or will have helpful tips and links in their user support forums. If you've already tried all this stuff, then I don't what to tell you at this moment  Anyway, give me a day or two, and I'll try to find out something for you. ;)

really its a lost cause. if i take everything apart and put it back together that usually remedies it and i am able to use up to 4x aa in doom3 and source engine games using XFX Specific manufacturer drivers(XFX93.71). all is essentially well atm. im gonna look it up myself but if you would like to confirm the maximum antialiasing possible for the XFX 7900gs AGP. it crashes(hard freeze with noise) in doom3 with aa over 4(x2 x4 x8 x16 possible choices) and cod4 has no option above x4 so from that im guessing that 4x is the highest.

This isnt really my beef either. I was having a hard time with highest quality shadows and shader effects in certain games (nexuis, grid, winboot, source) but like i said i'm having no more troubles right now. I think i have a really picky chipset or something? god if i know. i also checked my 600w psu and it has 24a on its 12v rail and i think this card needs 20. i have 4 fans an hdd a dvdrw and a pci soundcard. nothing is oc'd besides little tighter ram timings (tested with stock spds and had 0 impact on stability, same issues)

    Thank you majorgeeks!
