Why won't my 8 gig flash drive not work in my newest rebuilt computer when its works with my 4 gig?

It worked in my old slower computer.

By the way all run with XP.

Do you have another computer to test the card on?

    Hi Robert,

Are we talking about a Flash DRIVE or a Card Reader? Any sized Flash Card should work as the address lines are contained in the Drive itself. Older Card Readers do not have enough address lines to read the 8 gig. Designers must have thought that cards would never get bigger than 4 Gigs. Maybe?

    Good Luck, Jim

Yes I have tried it in a low powered 11 year old Laptop and it worked O.K.

It worked until I replaced the Motherboard , go figure!

I get it to reconize the card but does'nt show the Files

    My 4 Gig workes O.K.

I think I found my problem but can't solve it. I can't get it to accept the
U3 SMART system and can't remove the Launchpad that is the problem.

Have you tried removing the U3 launchpad software from your flash drive? See http://www.u3.com/support/default.aspx#CQ3 for info on that or visit the flash drive manufacturer's website for info on removing it.

I have tried to remove it but it doesn't want to work.

It almost loads but then stops and won't go.

I am pulling out my hair and don't have much left.

    Please HELP I'll try anything.

Does it still work on the older computer, with U3 menu appearing? What brand and model is this flash drive?

    It's a Sandisk cruser micro 8GB

It works in my old laptop

I have tried to load launchpad and I tried to unload U3 smart

    Neither works

What do you mean by "I have tried to load launchpad"? With U3 flash drives, Launchpad automatically starts when you connect the flash drive to a computer. So, I don't know what you mean by "I have tried to load launchpad".

And, what does this mean? Do you mean you can't uninstall it?
    From a SanDisk.com FAQ:
    http://www.sandisk.com/Retail/Default.aspx?CatID=1450#Q4

Can I remove U3 technology from my USB drive? Yes. To remove the U3 technology from the drive, simply go to the U3 Launchpad and, under Settings, select U3 Launchpad settings and click Uninstall. This will completely remove the U3 Launchpad from the drive.

I don't know if this is related but i have an 8gb Patriot flash drive and that gives me problems.
If i put it in with the PC booted it sees it but will not open the files(it asks me to re-format it)but if i boot the PC with it in it shows all the files and works perfectly.

I only have 1 patriot but have several flash drives 4gb and 8gb by Integral and they all work without any problems.

    I went to http://www.u3.com/support/default.aspx#CQ3

    As per there instructions

I tried to uninstall U3 smart as per instructions I tried to format the drive and said it would take a couple of minutes it went into 8 second to 0 cycles and continued to cycle for over a half a hour at which time I had to stop it

I also tried to launch Launchpad

    It didn't happen

We seem to be having some communication problem here. You said your U3 drive works with your old computer. If a U3 "works", then that means the U3 launchpad does, indeed, launch.

Forget those instructions for now. In my previous post, I included a link to SanDisk's website. You have a SanDisk, so follow the instructions from SanDisk. If that doesn't work, I suggest you visit http://communities.sandisk.com/sandisk/; the forum there as a section specifically for Cruzers with U3.
