Well I'm hoping that there is someone who can help me out there. On August 1st I moved home and now live in the country.

My ISP told me that as I was moving in to the middle of nowhere and I was so far away from the exchange I may have a problem getting broadband.

My current scenario is that: I can get my broadband working but only if the laptop is not plugged in the the mains power??? It is also very very slow and I can't download small files or video clips etc.

On the odd occasion that braodband works whilst my power lead is plugged in, it is superfast connection and works at full speed, but this has only happened twice in 8 weeks.

Any ideas would be gratefully appreciated.

    Cheers

You don't say what country you are in.
Do you have a telephone from your post it sounds as if the answer is no.

you could buy a satellite card but it is not cheap.

    Hey, I'm from Scotland.

My confusion is that I get broadband (albeit very slow) when the power cable is out of my lap top. The moment I plug in when my battery is low, I lose the connection. I'm just wondering if this could be the reason I can't get a strong signal.

You may possibly tell, but I'm not technically minded. :confused

Oh and I have a phone line coming in from a post outside but the exchange is a fair distance away.

This thread is an old one but would still be a good one to read to get some understanding of factors involved and gives a couple of sites for working out how far you are from the exchange:
    http://www.webuser.co.uk/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/229291/an//page/39/vc/1

I'll give you the links to the sites here because one of them doesn't go directly to the page you need:
    http://www.dslzoneuk.net/distance.php
    http://www.samknows.com/broadband/checker2.php

As to plugging in the power cord and you lose the connection, that doesn't add up to me but I'm not an electrician or broadband tech - someone else will have to comment on that. The only thing that I can think of is that the laptop needing its' external cable is coinciding with when more people are using the internet and that is what is really causing the trouble. The argument against this would be if you've tested at different times and proved a link between the power cable and lack of broadband.
