a friend of mine says i might have to uninstall the old driver ??
but i dont know how to. ???

Download the new driver from the website... Sounds like either a DirectX issue or a driver issue...

    Click start - run
Type in "dxdiag" - Without quotes
    Select yes
Allow the test to run and click on the "Display or Graphics" tab..
See if there are any conflicts or issues...

Other than that, theres not much to do

Maybe check if your BIOS AGP or PCIX settings are correct for the card... On the box of the card it should tell you its speed- for AGP will be 2X, 4X or 8X...

under screen in dxdiag, it says it dont know the card or something,
    and it is using VGA.dll

now i found the nvidia driver and uninstalled it with add or remove programs.

now the blue screen says NV4_disp !!

I am betting you are having a power supply issue. If you are using Nvidia SLI technology (don't know if your card is), there are strict power requirements. I read your card requires a "minimum 450W or greater system power supply (with 12V current rating of 30A)." Check the 12V rail rating of your power supply. If it is not of sufficient amperage, that will cause those problems.

    mmmm.... could be,

my psu is 420 W and the 12V is at 19A,

but still i can use it, right now but it isent able to use the driver.
and im right now running in 1 hz !!!! slide show MAX.

i will try to connect my old PSU to it and that is 550W with 12W at max 30A and min 0.8A (witch i can adjust from the front.i guess.)

it is SLI. i think all 8800 GTX is SLI.
nut i only have one so im not running SLI.

i will now try to hook it op. and hope it works.
if it does i gues i have to change PSU.

    mmm.. no

    it dident help.

it is the same. when i turn my pc on. and choose start as the last time it worked, and then it finds the graphix card. and want to install it.

and i get an error message. that

"can not find graphics card information"

i when i install it flikkers and go 16 colours. it says nv4_disp feiled.

and that i need to restart for changes to take effect.
i restart. and it goes black where winxp should start. and then a blue screen with the nv4_disp apears

I believe that is indeed your problem. The 12V rails have to be up to par for SLI (even higher). The PSU HAS TO BE APPROVED FOR SLI!!!!! There is a web site that goes into further detail on it

    http://www.slizone.com/object/slizone_build_psu.html#certified_powersupplies,

but that is indeed your problem. Check to see if your power supply is on the list of approved power supplies. I know it is not so you need one of those if it is going to work. I saw on newegg.com that people were having the same trouble and they didn't bother to check if their power supplies were SLI approved. Yours is not. It's possible that the video card is not pulling more than 24A and is getting away with it. However, most SLI MB's won't boot with a PS that has less than 30A on the 12v rails and you will run in to those types of problems if PSU not sufficient.

Good luck, I hope it works out for you. That is one mean card you got there. If you upgrade to Core 2 duo and add a second card....Holy geez. Please post your benchmarks.

I am not too well versed in the new SLI technology as of yet. I think the mobo is a possibility there, but check the site www.slizone.com. This is the official site and will answer all questions. Here is a link to the FAQs

    http://www.slizone.com/page/slizone_faq

This is a very good place to see if your hardware is an issue. My opinion is the PSU, but I have not had a chance to use SLI yet. Hopefully someone else who has jumps in here.

"So does it have to be one of those on the top of the list. ?
or is that just for if you have two cards ??

As you point out it does appear that these supplies are adequate for 2 cards and I am not certain that if you only run one card if those apply. The research I have done thus far leads me to believe that you need an SLI ready PSU, but I suppose if you plan on strictly using 1 card maybe it is not necessary. The list is those PSU's guaranteed to work with SLI, while other PSU's you are taking a risk. Even if the Amps is adequate, your system config may make your PSU inadequate.......you are chancing it. I would have guessed that second PSU you tried would have been adequate considering it had 12V rating of 30A, but your first one is definitely inadequate even for 1 card.

I would say to check out the FAQs for SLI and even try support from ASUS as well as your MOBO manufacturer. That sounds like a smart idea. Let them know your config and see if it is compatible. I wish I could be of more help, but I haven't used those cards as of yet. Please let me know what support says if you try that route. I am curious as to the PSU issue myself for future reference. There is still a lot of confusion on SLI.

Hope this helps: ASRock mobo's are famous (to me anyway ;) ) for having conflicts with video cards. This problem usually (but not always) applies to ATI cards. I know you're running an NVidia, but the 8800 is new, you're ASrock mobo; not so much... check the ASRock web site for a possible BIOS upgrade to fix the problem. I've done it in the past for video conflicts on ASRock boards.... just a thought.....

Boot in safe mode. Remove any/all display adapters from device manager. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall any/all drivers from there. Reboot in normal mode and reload the drivers for the 6600.... reboot again and all should be well....

The symptoms you are describing do not sound like power issues. They are more likely to be driver related. You do not need an 'SLI certified' PSU to run an 8800 GTX. (which is not an SLI card in itself, like the 7950 GX2)

You need to try cleaning out the old drivers before you install the new card. If you still have problems, it could be the PSU, but right now it really sounds like a driver issue instead.

You should run the uninstall for the nvidia video card drivers. Then, if you want, you can try a program called Driver Cleaner Pro; some people recommend it, some don't.
    http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/Driver-Cleaner-Professional-Download-20706.html
Then, you'll need to shut down the computer, remove the old card, install the new card. Download the latest nvidia drivers from www.nvidia.com, if you haven't already, and install them.

If you are still having problems, then it could be a power issue, but until you rule out a driver issue you can't be sure.

Also, what OS are you running?

    mmm... that sounds risky.

it allways go wrong for me.

and now i have ordred a new 1000w PSU. and then you tell me it isent the PSU. damn. hehe

    i have just ordred
    http://www.edbpriser.dk/Products/Listprices.asp?ID=252856

and i have just got a reply from AsRock. that says

i dont know what that is surpose to mean. ?

i have had it in. well not interely. but i could see and start op windows and so on. all though not with the best of graphics. hehe....

so now i get a new PSU. and now i aperently also have to get a new Mobo.

i should newer have bought that 8800 GTX.
i have to opgrade everything, and i cant aford it.

That is a hell of a card. The PSU upgrade is a smart move....don't regret it. With that card if you don't have the proper supply, you will run into problems. And here is a word of encouragement.....You can do all of the upgrades in the world, but the one upgrade that will BLOW AWAY all the others by more than double is adding that second card (SLI) with regard to gaming. Unbelievable stuff. So you will be ready for a future upgrade of adding a second card. The PSU is necessary and you are ready for the future now. Don't feel bad. I hope it all works out.

yes well i had that in mind.
i dident want to stand there in a year or two or tree hehe....
and have to get a new PSU. so i could just as well get a proper one now. (im asuming it is a proper one ?)
but it all cost. and im running dry fast.

well i could afford the card. but i dident think about having to get a new PSU. or Mobo. and if i get a new mobo i could just as well get a duel core and so on and so on. rolleyes

well the 8800 GTX have two special power connections. and for each of those. there is a cable with two female power connections on it.

so does it need in all 4 power cables ??

I am not certain of the power scheme of this card. Someone else may know, but remember that ASUS support is there as well. They can let you know too. I think the slizone website I referred you to earlier has a list of compatible boards, but you could also ask ASUS for a reference to compatible boards. That way you can choose a bgoard you know will work. Good luck.
