9-5 Job ( Do You Like It Or Hate It)?

For those of you who have a 9-5 job is it something you enjoy, hate, or a neutral towards?

I have to admit from my end it gets a little dull, every when i try to change things the environment is just robotic and fast paced.

Not that i mind fast paced environment but my job is kind of sometimes a lose situation in terms of relief. If i work too efficient and fast more work gets handed to me and i have to take over my colleagues work loads in order to speed up everything

If i work a little slow or a little slow in getting responses of projects done then work piles up and sometimes it can take days to catch up. In order to balance and keep my work up to date sometimes i put my own time ( yes on my weekends) to catch up or finish projects. I do not get paid extra when i catch up or put extra time on the weekends because the company does not request for me to do it, although they do see this and i get bonuses and raises frequently.

I put a request to be a a marketer and outside company rep where i would be able to work from my home office, drive around, and meet new clients but the company i work for told me my division would slow down so much that they would lose money if i move out of that branch so instead they doubled my pay and i accepted

The funny thing is the 2 company's i work for are in a field that i never really thought i would be interested in and to be honest i have to admit that even now i am not entirely ''into it''. I feel as if this point its getting harder to leave if i want to because of how much my pay has increased.

I don't ''hate'' my job but i rather be doing something else i actually enjoy but its not really as simple as quitting and doing it as i could also end up in a box

I like my 9-5, I feel it should pay more and we should charge more though. XD That's the main issue with anything though! :) My work is extremely horrible at the moment because I've taken on the accounts of 3 people so my team can advance and sell better services. XD I'm gonna die early! XD

If you think 9-5 is bad try a 6 pm to 6 am.I have worked 12 hour shifts plus. The longest shift i ever worked was 16 hours.I will not go beyond that.I use to work 70 plus hours a week.I cut it back down to 50.

Between commuting and staying a bit later sometimes to help the new workers i probably do end up ''working'' 12 hrs anyways..

9-5 was just a reference my schedule actually starts at 7 am and sometimes i come home as late as 7 pm ..

This brings to my next point, if you are working a ''9-5'' job and dedicated your own personal time on weekends or even after ''work'' has officially ended think about why you are still working for someone else. It is certainly not easy to start something on your own and this is why most people don't do it,
but my plan is eventually to go off own my own and assemble my own ''team''.

I figure if i dedicate this much time into someone else's business i might as well try to do it on my own

I agree with you i use to build good decent computers back in the day.And sell them for a good price. But in the later 90's there really was not much market for them at that time.I built a full desktop back in 1996 and it ran for 17 years. With a few upgrades here and there. But now i have lost touch with that side and would love to go back. But things are getting very competitive with the computer market place.

I know how you feel it sucks working for some one else.Especially if you get miss treated.I know i have up and walked out on a couple of places years ago.Because pay was bad,Had long hours no benefits. And i just got sick of working with total snob's.Thinking there better then every one else. When i could do the same job and probably do it better.I know this type of stuff is in every place you work at.You got the people that work there butts off and trying to get a promotion. And some one that is younger then you and has less work exp then you gets the promotion. All they did was Ki$$ A$$ to boss.

It's stuff like this that upsets me.I could retire a few years early if i wanted to.

Most places only care about the numbers any more or fact and figures.A lot of places don't care about there employees Just numbers. Here in the US the pay rate is still kinda low compared to some other Countries. If you look at the top list of Countries that have the highest paying job opportunities. The US is rank 3 in that list lol.Number one currently is Luxembourg ant that a laugh.

Hey dude, I used to work 12-14 hour days in a care home so over 80 hours a week. This kind of thing can drive one mad.

Never really had a problem with being mistreated

Just had hasty replies form main heads of companies but i completely understand that when you run a business you don't want excuses you just want solutions so i don't take anything personal.

For the most part i get along fine or have a neutral stance , i try not to befriend in work as to not make it seem like i am helping them get a better position etc.

Working with people from different backgrounds and ages i come to realize everyone is just different so i take nothing personal , though i do notice the younger generations are a little lazier.

I haven't faced a whole lot of issues where i feel someone gets an unneeded promotion , only issue i have is the sons or daughters of the business owners feeling entitled and doing as they please because they know the father won't fire them.

I am usually the youngest of the group and i get a few bitter (older) people feeling some sort of resentment that that their boss could essentially be their son. People should get this to this at this modern era though... the current main workforce is usually 20-35 year olds if you are older than say 40ish and in no management potion chances are your manager is going to be young than you.

I don't believe because someone is simply older that they should get payed more than someone who is younger specially if they are less efficient. Being older does not necessarily mean someone can do the job better or even have more ''experience''. There is a fact that remains true to my eyes and that is the confusion of actually having experience doing something ( fully knowledgeable ) and then the reality of just having done the same exact tasks for the past 15+ years that they were told to do.

Anyone can pick up a box and place it in a conveyor belt, anyone can mow a lawn, anyone can scrub a floor and vacuum a room, anyone can make calls from a call center this makes no difference whether someone does it for 20 years or 3 years it is the same task. What separates individuals is not age but a specific way they do these tasks mostly by specific techniques they develop ( some people never develop techniques though ).

I have found several cases where a man who is around 50ish was actually less efficient than someone who was half his age but yet this 50 year old man felt he had some special skill ( which was not really a skill but rather repetitiveness he learned) that the 25 year old learned in a couple of months. But then again i have come across several young folks who just simply show up to work to get paid and rarely do any work at all

    I agree with that statement.

Most job's should be about skills and how well you can perform.

But there are some job's that are totally Ridiculous. And some are so easy you could fall a sleep.A lot of temp jobs don't pay no were near the amount they should.

What i have learned is you got to work twice as hard to make a living any more. And it should not be that way.I am not sure when you were born but a lot has changed in the past 35 years since i was born.

Heck gas price's went from the 80's prices 70cents to a dollar 1.10$ Now in the 2000's its up even higher then the 90's.I remember a few years ago when gas prices were over 4 dollars in the US.There is no such thing as a middle class any more lol.

9-5 not something I do these days or actually in working life TBH

These days its a not so bad 7:30 - 16:00 and 15:30 on fridays, never work weekends unless travelling for work, the day can be intense though with no real breaks as depends if I'm in medical clinic or not, also if meetings crop up those tend to just give you 15mins to eat. I can have the odd day on conferences that last 15yrs+ with travel and socialising (latter is in a bar). I work with folk from many nations around the world so learning something new all the time, not just in our work area but socially.

I DO NOT work weekends at all, apart from aforementioned travel at times, emails I have remote access to those, do reply on occasion but in the main dont access until back in work of a working day. Done the odd database or data collection via Excel or Popwerpoint when Ive been roped into giving a talk at last miniute but again, I want my ME TIME, we all need relax time from work or we'd go NUTS!
