98 - Xp

    Ok, so someone just gave me some of their old PC's and me, being as dumb as I am wasn't thinking, and I just went to put XP Pro on the... Compaq Presario EZ2200.. which is quite old. Anyways, I installing XP with NP, everything good, it's done installing! WOOT! but... I get as far as the loading screen (where is show XP Logo and lil loading bar at bottom) and then...nothing.....just shuts off. Someone told me something about BIO's but I have no idea and I have googled it but can't seem to find anything helpful to my small knowledge, I have a good laptop and a very good desktop that I can use (obviosuly using one of um now) so if I need to DL anything etc.

    Right now I would be happy with just getting it to start up and working, XP or 98 SE, I'm all for it, but as i'm sure u have figured out, the guy didnt have any of his CD's etc.

    Without an OS CD you are out of luck! Granted, the hard drive can be wiped, but you still wouldn't have an OS to install.:)

    I'm at school at moment, I'll try that out, Novice...I can probabbly easily get a new OS CD I got enough connections, lol

    Also a good chance that you don't have enough ram for xp ... or that the ram you have is mal-functioning ..... could be why they gave it away.

    I started up the comp with 98 and it ran fine, I just quickly was like...ok it works...XP Time, lol...it has 2 cards and one of them clearly says 128 MB, the guy who gave it to me said it ran fine, lol...I just screwed up, lol

    So all is working now???
    Can right click on My Computer and it will show how much ram you have.
    Sounds like 256mgs.

    No, sry that was right when I got it Monday night, I just came home, plugged it in, turned it on 98 booted with NP at all i just browsed like the guys old ducuments jsut to mess around, figured it worked great (actually ran surprisingly decent) so I just shut er down and installed XP

    O, and I got a friend who is gonna give me Windows ME to see if I can get that installed on it.

    Then need a lot more info .... when you installed xp, did you format the disc (wipe all previous operating systems).
    When it starts to boot, does it ask which operating system you want to load.
    If yes / no.... and it won't get past the startup screen, then you may have to do a "repair" installation. But first boot up and try to get into safe mode. Post back.

    Yup, I formatted. No it doesnt ask, and I tried to repair...but once I got in there...i had no idea wtf I was doing, lol

    also, I have tried to reinstall XP several times on it now, and still same situation

    So no go into safe mode?
    For a repair .... get past the agreement page and it should look for previously installed os.... if it did install before it should find xp and ask if you want to "repair " (press R) or install new ..... press r and let it go .... post back....

    Hey Thanks alot, I actually got XP Pro running on it, I just thought what the heck, tried installing it again, and for some reason it worked -shrugs- I have no idea this is literally like my 10th time installing it, but O well, lol
