    Greetings!

The items in the title are all installed on my comp. When browsing the internet, I will have unpredictable hangups and crashes when I click on link. Whenever I try to run Windows Media Player, Real Player or Quick Time, the video/tune will go thru buffering and downloading, then about 3 seconds into the video or tune, everything freezes up forcing a reboot.

Video card is geforce 5200 with drivers 53.xx. I tried the newer drivers from Nvidia but that only made matters worse. Any games I play, (Everquest, Warcraft, etc) all run fine.

Any thoughts on what I should check next?

You could check your DX diagnostics by running the dxdiag program through its tests.

I too have Win98, DX9.0b and IE6 but without any hangups and crashes that you experience.

You could also try lowering the hardware acceleration down a notch or two from the System Properties/Performance/Graphics... accessible via Start/Settings/Control Panel or by pressing the Windows key and the Pause-Break key simultaneously. There is a similar equivalent option within RealPlayer to affect the graphics capability.

Well, have tried all the options previously listed with no resolution. Same crashes and hangs still occur. No viruses detected. I run Adaware and Spybot. I connect thru DSL. Could there be a setting I am missing in the BIOS or on the MB? or the vid card perhaps?

This is just a guess, but do you have a lot of different things installed on your computer, or just the essentials? I have experienced similar problems on the PC at my parents house which is clogged with all kinds of different programs I have installed over the last few years.. I can always seem to keep it running one way or another, but the only way to get it back to 100% is a format

Actually, system is fairly new. I had been having some problems with an old 10 gig hard drive, so ditched it. At the same time, went and upgrade to new mb with athlon 1.8 cpu with an 80 gig hard drive. From the start, before adding any games or whatever, the crashes have been happening. Just peculiar........
